German National Tourist Board (GNTB) was recertified as a Green Globe organisation for the eighth successive year in 2020, retaining its Gold status in the Green Globe programme.

We take a quick look at some of the properties that have successfully achieved their Green Globe certification and their sustainability best practices. Although Covid restrictions have affected hotel operations in recent times, great effort is taken to maintain as many green initiatives as possible at individual properties.

Green Globe recently recertified Hyatt Zilara Cancun for the third year.

The 4-star Mövenpick Hotel ‘s-Hertogenbosch is located at the waterfront of Lake Provinciehuis just outside the historical city centre of den Bosch in The Netherlands. Green Globe recertified Mövenpick Hotel ‘s-Hertogenbosch in January marking nine consecutive years of certification.

Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort is proving that a weeklong vacation at its Eagle Beach property is exponentially healthier for the planet than even staying at home for one week. In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2021, the resort is removing the mystery of how carbon neutrality delivers a guiltfree, fulfilling vacation. Green Globe recently certified César Ritz Colleges Switzerland - Le Bouveret Campus, a Culinary and Hospitality College, for the first time. For Le Bouveret Campus, education is the primary tool used to raise environmental awareness about sustainability practices and topics amongst students. Sustainability initiatives include academic courses that address green issues, support for the ethical handling of live seafood and the conversion of food waste into biofuel. The college also encourages students to follow a sustainable lifestyle outside of their general studies or the workplace.

Barceló Maya Grand Resort is a 6-hotel property located in the Riviera Maya, on the Mexican Caribbean. The resort stretches over 1.2 miles of sandy beach with crystal clear waters and lies adjacent to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef system and National Natural Protected Areas. Green Globe recently recertified Barceló Maya Grand Resort for the third year in acknowledgement of their commitment to preserving nature and the environmental initiatives implemented at the resort.

Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna is a five-star resort located in the Egyptian tourist resort area of El Gouna. The resort is conveniently located just north of Hurghada on the west coast of the Red Sea looking over azure waters. Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna was recently recertified for the 9th year.

Towering over the Bay of Angels and the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the charming 5 star Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée hotel is ideally located on the prestigious Promenade des Anglais in the heart of Nice. First certified by Green Globe in 2017, Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée was recently recertified for the fourth year.

Green Globe recertified Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam for the third consecutive year in late 2020.

The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam’s annual play performances could have been impacted by the pandemic earlier in January this year. However, in the true spirit of live theatre, the hotel hosted a local community live audio stream of the play entitled “Gijsbreght van Aemstel”. The play is the longest running theatre tradition in the world and has been running for over 380 years. The story is a “Trojan Horse of Troy” story depicting the end of medieval Amsterdam, which made way for the Dutch Golden Age in the17th century.

The resort also supports social causes that assist children with autism in the community.
