Barceló Resorts Protecting & Investing in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

Royal Hideaway Playacar

The Barceló Group’s Allegro Playacar and Royal Hideaway Playacar are located on the idyllic shores of Playa Del Carmen, which enjoys some of the best beaches along Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

First certified in 2020, Allegro Playacar and Royal Hideaway Playacar have both recently been recertified with high compliance scores of 87%. These Barceló resorts are committed to the objectives of sustainable development and everything they do counts towards the protection of community and environment.

Through strategic alliances with organisations committed to the environment, most of the supplies brought into the resorts, such as linens, uniforms and electronics have a second life along with recycled waste. At the same time community programs are regularly carried out and include beach cleanups in the State’s Federal Zone, along with sanitization and fumigation programs in public schools to ensure the health of local resident their families.

The National Code of Conduct protecting the well-being of children and adolescents in the state of Quintan Roo, is formally recognized by both Allegro Playacar and Royal Hideaway Playacar. The resorts see it as their responsibility to acknowledge the challenges faced by young people in their community and carry out actions to prevent thousands of potential victims from exploitation.

Likewise, another important social commitment is to disabled people with the resorts’ collaborators and their families working with local charities to donate one wheelchair for every 1 kg of staples collected across the different departments of the hotel.

Allegro Playacar

Animal welfare is also recognized by Allegro Playacar and Royal Hideaway Playacar, who partner with the Municipality of Solidaridad Animal Welfare Center. Abandoned dogs and cats are provided with care and health treatment, while the resorts provide the center with sanitation and fumigation services, as well as supporting sterilization campaigns, and donating supplies such as chemical products and food. The resorts’ staff also enjoy providing Saturday walks for the dogs. The local municipality has an ongoing challenge with stray animals and Allegro Playacar and Royal Hideaway Playacar hope to improve the quality of life of the dogs and cats and save them from cruelty and mistreatment.
