Monte-Carlo Beach: Continuous Care for its Coastal Community

In recognition of its innovative and continuous program of sustainability, Monte-Carlo Beach has recently received the coveted Special Hotel & Lodge Green Award from the prestigious Hotel & Lodge travel magazine. The award was in recognition of the hotel’s commitment to preserving and enhancing its world-renowned tourist destination in Monaco.

The historic luxury hotel was built in 1929 and since 2014 has been Green Globe certified and achieved Gold status. The achievements of Monte-Carlo Beach in the areas of eco-tourism and marine conservation are remarkable and place it as a leader in the Principality.

LPO: Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux refuge
Very concerned about the environment, the Monte-Carlo Beach is strongly engaged in the protection of local biodiversity. Located inside the hotel, is the peak of La Vigie and its superb pine forest which is designated as a preserved bird refuge: LPO (Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux). To assist with conservation, the hotel has built several nesting boxes where more than 20 different bird species including 10 nesting species and 15 protected species are welcomed.

This site is becoming an essential refuge area for local biodiversity, and Monte-Carlo Beach recently organized discovery workshops for clients’ children. These sessions were based on nature-play and instructed by a naturalist guide, and educated the next generation on the importance and joy of protecting natural habitat.

Breakwater reef for marine diversity protection
To support local ecology as well as protect the coastline, Monte-Carlo Beach has completed the construction of a submerged breakwater reef located 100 meters from the shore. This man-made construction is specifically designed to foster the development of marine fauna in the protected area. The breakwater now resembles a lagoon, with a sandy bottom, rocky outcrops and Neptune grass. This reef will encourage the proliferation of marine species and offer swimmers the opportunity to observe a heathy and thriving coastal habitat.

100% organic food and wild caught fish restaurant: Elsa
Protection of the sea also reaches into the culinary experiences at Monte-Carlo Beach. The Monte-Carlo Beach restaurant Elsa has a 100% organic and wild-caught menu with the Ecocert level 3 Certification.

Elsa offers seasonal, local and organic cuisine, with sublime flavours and total well-being for both the body and spirit. All produce is selected for its gustatory and nutritional qualities and prepared to preserve all health-giving properties.

To further enhance Monte-Carlo Beach’s contribution to sustainable hospitality, two out of three restaurants on-site: Elsa and Le Deck, obtained the “Restaurant Engagé” Certification. Both restaurants must now commit to: staff training regarding eco-responsibility; installation of sorting devices at workstations; reducing single-use bags and encouraging reuse; and workshops to raise awareness of the environment, sustainable consumption and zero waste; among many other directives. These requirements are checked every year by a French company, Ecoscience Provence.

Since 2017, Monte-Carlo Beach has been part of Monaco s’engage contre le gaspillage alimentaire (Monaco committed against food waste), initiated by the city council of Monaco and the MC2D association. Building on this movement, gourmet take-out boxes are now offered and available in all restaurants. To further contribute to this sustainable approach, all Monte-Carlo Beach’s restaurants recycle peelings and other kitchen waste as compost. Other organic waste is dehydrated and recycled by a specialist contractor.

Electric vehicles, for an ecological ride
The Monte-Carlo Beach provides its customers with a large choice of eco-friendly vehicles to further reduce their ecological impact. The hotel maintains a fleet of e-transport options, with 100% electric courtesy cars, and electrically assisted bicycles. Two out of the three charging stations are dedicated to Tesla vehicles, which receive a complimentary full recharge during a hotel stay.

PAOMA, the new eco-responsible partner for the Monte-Carlo Beach spa
Offered from this year at the Monte-Carlo Beach spa, PAOMA is the first eco-ethical, organic skincare brand made in France. The spa Monte-Carlo Beach offers guests a unique experience combining treatments and massages with open-air yoga. In this little paradise of sea and sky, taking care of yourself is part and parcel of daily life. Private yoga, meditation and Pilates classes are all provided in the open air, surrounded by the sea and pine forest.
