Green Globe PLATINUM Awarded to Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre

Green Globe has again awarded Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre Platinum Status marking its eleventh year of consecutive certification. The hotel is celebrating more than a decade of implementing successful green measures and initiatives.

Mövenpick Amsterdam City Centre General Manager, Remco Groenhuijzen said, “We are proud of the fact that we have once again met the strict requirements and can retain our Green Globe certificate again this year. We, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center, continue to improve and innovate continuously to become an even more sustainable hotel.

“We are currently building our hotel in the Metaverse, which allows us to provide lifelike virtual inspections without an event planner having to physically visit the property. Reducing unnecessary travel, means less environmental impact. Our goal is to become as sustainable as possible, while retaining the service, amenities, and extras that our guests expect from a 4 star luxury hotel,” added GM Groenhuijzen

Metaverse – A Sustainable First for the Dutch Hotel Industry
Flying in and out of Amsterdam for a hotel site inspection is no longer acceptable in this era of sustinability. With Metaverse from RendezVerse, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre has a sustainable first. This high-tech tool allows a potential customer to explore the hotel from anywhere in the world, without having to travel.

The system is very simple: the customer uses a Virtual Reality headset, similar in size to ski goggles, and connects to Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre via the internet. From Amsterdam, this tool literally gives the customer a perfect picture of what the hotel has to offer. The customer can virtually move through the hotel by means of two joysticks that are linked to the headset. At the same time, the customer hears the hotelier speak, giving the feeling of really being in Amsterdam and enabling a personal approach to virtual reality.

This new initiative saves many unnecessary flight movements and therefore CO2 emissions. Due to the extensive possibilities of Metaverse, the number of flight movements for an event planner can be further reduced. The hotel already calculates the CO2 footprint for a meeting, including all associated travel. In line with Mövenpick’s stance on sustainability, the hotel is fully committed to CO2 neutral meetings and the use of Metaverse is an important part of this goal.

In addition, their guidance focuses on sex workers, victims of human trafficking, and undocumented people. Any person who wants to give new meaning and direction to their lives can call them.

Furthermore, they offer care, guidance, recovery-oriented groups and training, along with daytime activities. Their approach is strength-oriented, personal, and aimed at participation in society. This winter HVO Querido will house 400 homeless people and Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre has donated four trolleys full of room amenities.

On an international level, Accor Hotels & Resorts is one of the organisations representing The Code in the travel and tourism industry. As an Accor property, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre follows The Code, a voluntary set of criteria that members commit to, to prevent the sexual exploitation of children.

Too Good To Go
Despite the challenging circumstances during the past pandemic, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre has continued to collaborate with Too Good To Go, which helps reduce food waste, attract new customers, and generate income from surplus food. Via the Too Good To Go app, consumers can buy a Magic Box - a surprise package with surplus food items - and pick it up from one of their partners. Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre is a proud partner of Too Good To Go and, for several years, been supplying Magic Boxes. Over the past twelve months 1512 meals were saved, and 3.78 tons of CO2 emissions were eliminated.

 Made Blue
Raising environmental awareness amongst guests remains a priority at the hotel. Through participation in hotel water-saving initiatives, guests can feel satisfied that their actions are providing clean drinking water to whole families with limited access to this precious resource. Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre is currently developing new water coolers in collaboration with the Made Blue Foundation. The waters coolers will be stationed in the lobby to help guests save water and increase awareness.
