Living Hotel Großer Kurfürst focuses on Energy Savings as its Sustainability Goal

The Living Hotel Großer Kurfürst in Berlin celebrates its success in sustainability. The hotel was re-certified by Green Globe at the end of 2022. For the company, the award is proof that it is on the right track with its focus on resource-oriented management.

One of the biggest challenges of the past year was the pandemic situation. In the wake of Covid-19, bookings declined at the Living Hotel Großer Kurfürst as well as in the industry as a whole. By offering serviced apartments, however, the hotel had and still has a decisive advantage and USP compared to classic hotel chains. The most important focus from the beginning was to secure all jobs and to take away the uncertainty of the employees despite difficult times and to enable them to find meaningful employment. In recent years, the company has not had to part with any colleagues due to corona. The changed market conditions of the pandemic led to an increase in the number of guests, which had to be managed in a short time and with maximum flexibility.

A sustainability project that makes the Living Hotel Großer Kurfürst particularly proud is the possibility of dispensing with unnecessary cleaning, as Director Klaus Pfeiffer explains: "Recently, we have been offering our hotel guests in Berlin the opportunity to do without their daily room cleaning. Living Hotels donates 4 EUR to Tierheim Berlin for each daily cleaning not needed. The offer has been very well received by our guests so far and our employees are also convinced the campaign is a great thing. The rollout for the entire chain is planned for the beginning of 2023." Pfeiffer sees the biggest changes resulting from the cooperation with Green Globe in the personal responsibility and type of implementation of projects. Unlike other programs, which proceed with fixed criteria and measures catalogs, the employees develop an intrinsic motivation through the Green Globe mission statement to recognize CO2 and waste saving potentials and to use them. The further focus on the idea of sustainability, including the successes created by the respective teams themselves, are changes in the company that make everyone proud.

An important goal for this year is to reduce energy consumption: "Honestly. The most important objective is energy saving targets. We don't have to fool ourselves here, with the current energy costs, companies are forced to reduce consumption and thus their CO2 emissions as much as possible. We at Living Hotels are pioneers here and have been using 100% green electricity for several years. With regard to heating costs and hot water, we currently still see potential. In addition, we regularly question our habits and processes anyway and will continue to implement some great projects in 2023."

The goals of the hotel show that it is possible to constantly evolve and take new steps. Accordingly, new projects are launched, past projects are analyzed and the basic prerequisites for further development are created in the interplay of experiences and new ideas.

This fulfils the best conditions to enable a decisive contribution to the development of the company in the coming years and to make an important contribution to sustainability in the German capital.
