Fairmont Hotel Riyadh Joins Accor’s Collection of Green Globe Certified Luxury Hotels
Fairmont Hotel Riyadh proudly announces its first Green Globe Certification, a milestone that underscores the hotel's commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism. This achievement aligns with Accor’s global sustainability program, which aims to drive environmental stewardship and social responsibility across its portfolio of hotels worldwide.
As part of its journey towards a greener future, Fairmont Hotel Riyadh has implemented a range of impactful initiatives to improve resource management, enhance community engagement, and advance green innovation. The hotel has successfully introduced waste segregation practices to maximize recycling and upcycling efforts. Notably, linen and towels have been upcycled into tote bags for guests and employees, as well as kitchen aprons for the culinary team.
In December 2024, a biowaste composting machine was introduced, enabling the hotel to produce its own fertilizer. Additionally, the property has eliminated 100% of single-use plastics and is working with suppliers to establish take-back agreements for used packaging, coffee pods, and glass bottles, pending licensing approvals.
Community involvement is at the heart of Fairmont Hotel Riyadh’s sustainability strategy. The hotel has planned a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) calendar in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, incorporating community engagement initiatives into its Employee Well-being Program. These activities allow employees to actively contribute to meaningful causes, fostering a culture of responsibility and social impact.
The hotel's Green Team has also spearheaded a series of forward-thinking sustainability projects. A significant investment has been approved for an in-house water filtering and bottling station, set to be implemented this year. The property has also invested in electric mobility by purchasing an electric car and installing two charging stations for guest use. Additionally, the final touches are being placed on an herb garden project, which will provide fresh, locally sourced ingredients for the hotel's culinary operations.
These efforts reflect Fairmont Hotel Riyadh’s dedication to Accor’s broader sustainability objectives, which include reducing carbon emissions, minimizing waste, and fostering sustainable tourism practices. With this certification, Fairmont Hotel Riyadh joins a distinguished group of hotels worldwide that are leading the way in environmental responsibility, reinforcing Riyadh’s growing reputation as a destination that values sustainable tourism.
