Crowne Plaza Brussels Airport Re-certified for Second Year

Crowne Plaza Brussels Airport is a stylish, four-star airport hotel located five minutes away from Brussels Airport. The property has a restaurant and bar plus 16 fully equipped naturally lit conference rooms.

Green Globe recently recertified Crowne Plaza Brussels Airport for the second year in a row.

The hotel remains committed to its sustainability goals and despite Covid-19 restrictions has been able to carry out several of its social and operational initiatives.

Carrying out meetings and events has proved challenging over the past two years as social distancing and capped delegate numbers vary depending on the pandemic situation. To meet changing demands, the hotel worked in partnership with PFL to build two studio sets, one fitted with LED screens, to host virtual events onsite. The studios were launched in January this year.

Transition to E-vehicles
To minimize use of fossil fuels and lower CO2 emissions, the property has changed three of its cars over to Hybrid models. The last diesel driven car to be replaced with a Hybrid one will occur later this year in July.

Community Events
Crowne Plaza Brussels Airport staff members continued to support annual community and environmental events in 2021 including International Women’s Day, Earth Hour and Earth Day. During Earth Hour lights were switched off at the hotel to demonstrate its commitment to caring for the planet and the world at large. On Earth Day, members ventured outside and celebrated by cleaning up neighbourhood areas.

“Choose to Challenge” was the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day at IHG. The focus of the day was about supporting each other and being honest in the need to improve aspects of its business, from diversity to female career development.

Student Training
In November 2020 as part of its CSR programs, students from Erasmushogeschool Brussel, an institute of higher education, participated in hospitality training at the hotel where they were delegated roles in various departments in order to gain practical experience in hotel operations and management. The program is designed for first, second and third year students to train as future hoteliers. Though student numbers were lower than previous years due to Corona regulations, the hotel hopes to host more students later this year.
