Mövenpick Krasnaya Polyana Hotel: Sustainability in Sochi

Mövenpick Krasnaya Polyana Hotel

Green Globe awarded Mövenpick Krasnaya Polyana Hotel its first certification in December last year. Mövenpick Krasnaya Polyana Hotel is located at an altitude of 960 meters above sea level within the Krasnaya Polyana Resort. The property is close to the cable lifts, ski slopes and mountain hiking routes. As part of the Krasnaya Polyana Resort, the hotel team is committed to sustainability and green efforts in all areas of sustainability management. There is a particularly strong focus on nature and wildlife conservation as the hotel and resort premises are situated inside a national park in Sochi, Russia.

Lev Shagarov, Chief Sustainability Officer at Krasnaya Polyana Resort said, “Green Globe is the international standard for sustainability certification of tourist facilities and companies, and the preservation of the environment, natural resources, and cultural heritage. Over 670 members in more than 80 countries have Green Globe certification. This is an advanced standard where more than 350 criteria are used to assess compliance. Obtaining this certificate indicates that the accommodation facility complies with the best international practices in the fields of environmental protection and sustainability. It is also important to note that there are only two Green Globe certified hotels in Russia - in Sochi and Kazan.”

Mövenpick Krasnaya Polyana Hotel has 52 spacious rooms, a spa center equipped with a sauna and an indoor pool. Business travelers can use the conference rooms, and guests with children can spend an enjoyable time in the play area. A special offer from the hotel is accommodation in the two-level Presidential Suite with a total area of 583 m². This is one of the largest and most luxurious suites in Russia with two personal VIP terraces with mountain views, private Jacuzzi and mini-pool.

Alexey Golovlev, General Manager of Mövenpick Krasnaya Polyana and ibis Styles Krasnaya Polyana hotels stated, “Mövenpick Krasnaya Polyana Hotel has recently been recognized as the best hotel in the ACCOR chain of Northeast Europe for guest service quality. It is also ranked the best small hotel in Russia according to the National Hotel Awards. And now, Mövenpick Krasnaya Polyana has been certified under the Green Globe sustainability standard. These awards and titles confirm the high quality and experience of our sustainability team. It is a powerful driver for further development and moving forward.”

Krasnaya Polyana Resort consistently implements sustainable tourism practices in all aspects of its operations. Over the past two years, the resort team has managed to reduce electricity consumption by 4%, diesel fuel consumption by 34%, and waste reduction by 16%. Key initiatives include offering healthy meals made from locally sourced products (over 90% of food is locally produced), developing spa treatments, resource conservation, environmentally responsible purchasing, supporting the local economy, an inclusive environment, supporting environmental projects, training employees in sustainability practices and raising environmental awareness amongst guests. Currently, all hotels within Krasnaya Polyana Resort, located on Polyana 960 level, hold various environmental certificates.
