Mövenpick Hotel Doha: Giving Back & Moving Forward in Qatar
Mövenpick Hotel Doha has once again been recognized as a sustainable tourism champion, with its recent recertification by Green Globe. The Hotel’s efforts have been independently assessed and comply with both Green Globe’s International Standard for Sustainable Tourism v1.7, as well as Mövenpick Hotel & Resorts (MHR) operational ethos, “nourishing the environment, our people and the local communities where we operate our hotels and resorts.”
At the environmental level, Mövenpick Hotel Doha is an active participant in the global push to eliminate plastic usage. Reducing plastic pollution is one of the key actions included in the Hotel’s environmental initiatives.
Products including bathroom and guest room amenities, bags for slippers or clothing and restaurant items have been replaced with alternative materials including the following:
Laundry bags swapped from plastic to cloth.
Guest laundry covers replaced with biodegradable plastic.
Dental kit, shaving kit and comb have been changed to wooden items.
Plastic cutlery replaced with wooden cutlery.
Water bottles replaced with reusable glass bottles.
Plastic straws replaced with paper straws.
Takeaway bags changed from plastic to paper bags.
Mövenpick Hotel & Resorts’ Kilo of Kindness campaign is the annual global initiative to give back to the local community and support humanitarian projects that benefit those with limited income. Mövenpick Hotel Doha’s Kilo of Kindness supports the Qatar Charity’s ‘Warm Heart’ campaign, with hotel management, staff and guests donating toys, clothing, and school supplies to those who are in need. Along with sister property, Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha, the Hotel donated more than half a tonne of charitable items.
At the property level, Mövenpick Hotel Doha has focused on optimizing energy efficiency through operational improvements and adoption of energy saving measures which have led to a 7% saving compared to 2021. Key contributors to this saving and reduction of carbon pollution have been the optimization of the chiller, use of motion sensors in hotel public areas and use of LED lights in guest rooms.
