Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain Awarded Platinum Membership

Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain is the first hotel in the Kingdom of Bahrain to be certified Green Globe, and for several years has been implementing solid sustainability practices in their hotel. This year, Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain is proud to announce that it has obtained its Green Globe Platinum Status. This is the highest level of certification offered for continuous certification and commitment to sustainability over 10 consecutive years.

As a Green Globe certified hotel, Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain is internationally recognized as a property that constantly introduces initiatives with the aim to reduce and optimize its consumption of resources. This includes, but is not limited to, minimising use of air-cooled chillers during winter and installing sensor taps in all guestrooms and public area bathrooms to encourage water conservation, as well as recycling of swimming pool backwash water and using it for landscaping and cleaning purposes.

Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain best three Sustainability Achievements

Beach Cleanup (community programme): Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain has been organizing cleanup programmes every year for the past 10 years covering different areas of Bahrain to reduce litter, protect the marine life and raise awareness about litter and plastic pollution – an initiative to encourage the community to assess plastic usage, consider modifying their own behaviour, and ultimately save the environment.

Urban Vegetable Garden Installation (green initiative): Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain has implemented urban agriculture on the hotel premises to promote healthy communities by increasing access to healthy, fresh produce and provide an opportunity for communities to learn about nutrition, raise awareness for health and wellbeing, and sustain the planet. Their kitchen team harvests fresh vegetables such as rosemary, thyme, mint, radish, tomato, chili, etc. from the garden every day and creates nutritious dishes for guests.

Energy Saving (energy efficiency initiative): with 24-hour 365-days operations, hotels are known to be one of the highest consumers of energy and other resources, therefore to ensure hotel sustainability, Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain has implemented several sound conservation practices such as replacing Halogen light bulbs with LED, installing adiabatic cooling system, reducing electrical consumption of AHU fans through the integration of variable frequency drives (VFD), managing the active time of air conditioners, and closely monitoring energy consumption by the Engineering Team. Through the implementation of these practices and commitment to protect the environment, the hotel's energy consumption was reduced by 42.5% in the past 10 years, from 9816740 kWh in 2013 to 5633480 kWh in year 2021.

Amal Fernando, Chief Engineer at Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain commented: " We are committed to effective environmental management and concern for the well-being of our common environment.

“Our goal is to ensure that hotel facilities and operations follow environmental standards. We believe that an appropriate balance can and should be achieved between environmental goals and economic health.

"We intend to be a leader in responsible environmental management by training and educating all our employees to develop awareness and understanding of key environmental issues, applying environmental awareness to our purchasing practices, reduce and replace hotel’s energy consumption, and more," he added.
