La Grée des Landes, Eco-Hotel & Spa Yves Rocher: Where Nature Enhances Well-Being
La Grée des Landes, Eco-Hotel-Spa Yves Rocher, which epitomises the Brand's commitment to ecosystems, was built in its element: nature. Opened in April 2009, the Yves Rocher Eco-Hotel & Spa, eco-friendly throughout, nestles amongst schist, trees, plants and birds. It has been monitored by the French Birds Protection League (LPO) since its creation, and regularly takes a census of fauna and flora, but, most of all, adapts its practices to promote local biodiversity. The management plan and the alterations introduced from its earliest days, have had a very positive impact on fauna and flora. In ten years, an increase in the number of species has been observed for almost all the animals.
This haven, awarded Gold Green Globe status and European Ecolabel certified, provides responsible, authentic and natural care, relaxation and fine cuisine. The requirements regarding services in no way hamper the ecological requirements of the Yves Rocher Eco-Hotel & Spa, in other words, the environmental footprint is kept to an absolute minimum.
At first glance, the warm and welcoming decor consists of walls and floors made from wood sourced from sustainably managed French forests, and VOC (volatile organic compounds) free paints.
To achieve energy performance, nothing has been left to chance: the orientation of the building with south-west facing windows enjoys the sun throughout the day; green roofs naturally regulate the indoor temperature; high quality thermal and sound insulation provided by cellular concrete walls and hemp wool; solar panels; as well as wood-fired boilers that use wood produced in sustainably managed local forests; and not forgetting, of course, the highly energy-efficient lighting used everywhere.
At La Grée des Landes, water is also at the very heart of the concerns, and every effort is made to save it. The water from the relaxation pool is recycled then used in the restrooms, while the water from the Wellness Space swimming pool is used to water plants and flowers, along with rainwater. The remaining waste water is recycled in the hotel park: it flows through a filter basin surrounded with reeds to ensure aeration and development of bacteria, then into a pond with filter plants, before flowing into the soil, cleared of all its impurities. It should be noted that the shower heads in the bathrooms help to halve water consumption!
“Les Jardins Sauvages" gourmet restaurant does not depart from the company's values. The specifications are straightforward, detailed and demanding. Chef Fabien Manzoni offers affordable, organic (excluding seafood), and locally sourced gourmet cuisine. All the fresh produce comes from Brittany. The restaurant was once again selected in the France 2022 MICHELIN Guide for the excellence of its cuisine and awarded the MICHELIN Green Star for sustainable gastronomy.
At La Grée des Landes, the kitchen garden itself is a link to nature. Every day, Chef Fabien Manzoni draws his inspiration from this garden and its unique aromas and flavours, and uses the ingredients it provides to create the restaurant's gourmet dishes. Because creating seasonal menus in line with the tempo set by nature also means acting while respecting biodiversity.
