Hyatt Ziva & Zilara Rose Hall, Jamaica: Protecting and Building Community
8 SEPTEMBER 2023: Located in Rose Hall, Jamaica, on the shores of the legendary Montego Bay, Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara have been certified by Green Globe since 2017. Both hotels are nestled between the beauty of the Caribbean Sea and a hinterland of mountain forests, with families enjoying the warmth and hospitality of Hyatt Ziva, while Hyatt Zilara offers an adult only retreat.
Hyatt Ziva & Zilara Rose Hall have together maintained an exceptional compliance score of 96% for sustainable operations and management and have achieved Green Globe GOLD status. The key to the resorts’ sustainability success has been their dedication to constant improvements.
Recent innovations include the use of Winnow Solutions to support the hotel’s food waste reduction efforts, which deliver both environmental and financial benefits. The resorts’ teams have been able to improve recording and tracking of waste, therefore identify changes that bring about reductions and savings.
Hyatt Ziva & Zilara’s herb and organic produce garden serves a dual purpose: it supplies the kitchens and food & beverage outlets with fresh, high-quality produce, and it also acts as an educational platform for guests. The resorts believe that by teaching guests about local vegetables, herbs, and agricultural techniques, they can deepen their understanding of the land, the food they consume, and the importance of sustainable farming practices.
Commitment to community is also part of Hyatt Ziva & Zilara’s sustainability management plan. To help local kids get back to school, the resorts’ joined together with local sanitation company Waste Management Limited, to support their annual Back-to-School-Drive.
Hyatt Ziva & Zilara have contributed to various fundraising events and tournaments. The hotels have supported the Jamaica Golf Association sending teams to the Caribbean Golf Championships, and they have also sponsored the Phoenix Lodge’s Charity Golf Tournament, with all funds raised assisting charitable organizations, including the Masonic Children's Fund, National Disaster Fund, Port Royal Basic School, and the Phoenix Lodge Port Royal Scholarship Fund.
