Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport:  Performing at the Highest Level of Sustainability

Located in a peaceful part of Schiphol Airport’s business area and near Amsterdam city center, Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport was first certified by Green Globe in 2016, and since been awarded GOLD status for its continuous and independently audited sustainable management.

Over many years Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport has initiated a range of sustainable actions. Energy savings are achieved with low energy LEDs and a sensor system dimming lighting to 10% during daytime and 20% during nighttime. Guests using EVs for transportation are supported with charging stations in the hotel’s carpark.

At the local level the Hyatt Thrive team regularly joins forces with local companies to clean up their neighborhood. This event takes place every six months and during the last clean up more than 50 rubbish bags were collected. After finishing their neighborhood beautification, the hotel hosts a celebration for everyone with snacks and drinks for all participants.

Every month the hotel implements an awareness session as part of Welcome to Hyatt training for the newest cohort of employees. The hotel updates employees on all sustainability initiatives and encourages them to contribute their own ideas in a drop box for future implementation. New employee ideas included renting solar panels from solar energy farms nearby, as the hotel is not able to place panels on their roofs due to lack of space, as well as installing shower meters, so guests can see how much water they are using and be more conscious about saving this resource.

Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport also makes efforts to source local and ethical produce for inclusion in its restaurant menu. Recently the hotel launched the Butcher’s Choice - Elevating the Dutch Dining Experience in Hoofddorp. Beef for this menu is supplied by growers in the nearby district of Koningshof in Berkel & Rodenrijs. The cattle are allowed to roam freely in the lush De Groenzoom nature reserve during the summer. In winter months, they take comfort in expansive, well-ventilated stables adorned with straw bedding. This idyllic environment ensures their well-being, resulting in meat of unparalleled quality.
