Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport: An International Hub for Sustainable Practices

Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport is located at the intersection of work and play in a peaceful corner of Schiphol Airport’s business area and near to Amsterdam city center. First certified in 2016, Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport is a Green Globe GOLD member, signifying more than five years of sustainable management and operation. The hotel is also committed to Hyatt’s World of Care platform which brings together the hotel group’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy and their global approach to advancing care for the planet, people and responsible business.

The Kariba Project - Conservation Farming

Since the lifting of strict Covid measures at the start of 2022, the Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport is back to its busiest and the hotel's sustainability activities continue with much enthusiasm and commitment. Meetings and events are an important part of the Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport’s operations. The hotel’s Meeting with a Purpose package uses carbon calculation tools to measure a meeting’s CO2 emissions. Working with profit-for-purpose organization South Pole, carbon offsets are then generated and 1% of the total meeting’s revenue is invested in the Kariba Forest Protection Project.

The Kariba project protects almost 785,000 hectares of forests on the southern shores of Lake Kariba near the Zimbabwe-Zambia border. At the same time, it equips the local communities with necessary resources and skills to protect their future and the future of the planet. Conservation farming plays a major role in the project, helping to eradicate poverty, aid food security, empower women and help communities adapt to global warming.

The Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport’s Wellbeing Team is always looking for new projects to improve the happiness and welfare of their colleagues, local community and clients. One project designed to create cultural engagement is the Our Place Cookbook, a collection of recipes from hotel colleagues. The idea came from the hotel’s Wellbeing Champions, who suggested that it would be great to explore their colleagues’ cultures through their favorite dishes. Soon after, all hotel team members started to cook, write down and take pictures of their dishes, eventually combining into the cookbook. All recipes are home-made and many are passed down through the generations, bringing everyone together through the common thread of food.

Green Globe’s recent independent verification audit, held on site at Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport, confirmed the hotel’s well-earned score of 75% of all sustainability criteria. And in addition, gave the Wellbeing Team many new ideas for future improvements in sustainability such as additional eco-friendly items and products, adjustments to guest rooms and bathrooms and many more future initiatives.
