Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo: Prestige & Expertise Towards Sustainable Development

Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo is modern, luxurious and located in the heart of Monaco. The elegant hotel, built in 1843 in the belle-époque style, is home to Michelin-starred restaurant, Pavyllon Monte-Carlo, un restaurant de Yannick Alléno and the recuperative spa Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo.

Striving to set the global standard for sustainable luxury, Hôtel Hermitage was first certified by Green Globe in 2019 and recently recertified with an excellent score of 81% of all sustainability criteria.

Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo General Manager Louis Stark says, “We are proud to certify as a Green Globe property for the 4th consecutive year. Our teams are embracing the comprehensive approach featured in the certification. Ecological impact, heritage and patrimonial awareness & preservation, community integration & social responsibility, charity, sport & culture, are among the many fields offered to all associates to work on and participate in, and this supports our sustainability efforts. Not only is this a great part of our engagement and pride, but also an example of our sense of community and teamwork.”

Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo is the flagship property of the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer’s Group (SBM) who for the last three years have been dedicated to their 2019 - 2022 Environmental Charter: Go Sustainable. This is the Groups 3rd Sustainable Development Charter with key targets focused on educating customers and stakeholders; responsible purchasing; clean mobility; and reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG). In this area, Hôtel Hermitage, as part of SBM, is connected to the overall policy of the Principality of Monaco which is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

A recent investment in green mobility and carbon reduction, is the hotel’s replacement of their courtesy car with an electric E Pace Jaguar vehicle, which supersedes the previous petrol BMW. The new e-vehicle is dedicated to VIP guests for transfer within the Principality. The concierge staff also regularly recommend guests take green transfers from the hotel to the airport via local e-vehicles.

As part of its social engagement, Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo has maintained a long-lasting partnership with the association MIR  which is based in Nice and dedicated to assisting homeless people. The association is part of SAMU Soupe which is an initiative to provide free meals to people in need. The hotel participates each quarter, providing meals for the homeless on the streets of Nice. All ingredients for the meals are supplied by the hotel, along with preparation and distribution carried out by Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo’s staff. The most recent food distribution was in March this year, with 250 needy people able to enjoy nutritious meals.

At the other end of the spectrum, Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo also invests in the preservation of classical culture and its variety of expressions. Newly designated as a Hotel des Connaisseurs, the hotel has been pleased to create and organize exceptional events dedicated to art and gastronomy. Most notable this year, the wine tasting Rose is Rosé supported by Moet & Hennessy & LVMH was hosted with some of the most recognized Rosé cellar masters such as the renowned Garrus.

To celebrate the cultural contribution of architecture and music, Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo was also honoured to present a recital of piano compositions from the Gustave Eiffel era, held under the hotel’s Mezzanine Eiffel, with the addition of a duet composed and performed by Mr Stefan Cassar and Mrs Stella Almondo, a Monegasque piano prodigy.
