Green Globe PLATINUM Awarded To Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre
Green Globe has awarded Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre Platinum Status marking ten consecutive years of certification.
Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre is celebrating a decade of implementing successful green measures and initiatives. The hotel remains committed to its sustainability goals and their Green Team is preparing for better times ahead as the world reopens for travel.
No Room for Sex Trafficking
The hotel has been active in introducing policies against sexual commercial exploitation over the years. It has been reported that sexual exploitation of minors or illegal prostitution are common instances of sex trafficking at hotels and holiday parks in The Netherlands. To tackle this problem, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre has joined No Room for Sex Trafficking, a certification program for hotels and holiday parks endorsed by the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security. All new employees are required to complete an online training course where they learn to spot the signs of sex trafficking and/ or child abuse while current staff attend refresher courses. If signs of sex trafficking or sexual abuse are apparent, hotel staff will either contact the police or check identification documents of all guests staying at the hotel.
On an international level, Accor Hotels & Resorts is one of the organisations representing The Code in the travel and tourism industry. As an Accor property, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre follows The Code, a voluntary set of criteria that members commit to, to prevent the sexual exploitation of children.
Hotels For Trees
Despite very difficult operating circumstances during the pandemic, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre has continued to work in collaboration with initiatives like the Hotels For Trees Foundation. Guests who join the Hotels For Trees program opt to have no cleaning services for the entire room during their stay and in the process help plant trees in The Netherlands and overseas. Guests place the Hotels for Trees door hanger outside their room for one or multiple days indicating no cleaning is required. The number of days for all guests are entered into an online portal and tallied. Hotels for Trees then plants a corresponding number of trees. First started in November 2021, so far 136 trees have been planted and counting.
Made Blue
Raising environmental awareness amongst guests remains a priority at the hotel. Through participation in water saving initiatives at the hotel, guests can feel satisfied that their actions are providing clean drinking water to whole families with limited access to this precious resource. Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre supports A Litre For a Litre project run by Made Blue . For water saved at the hotel, Made Blue matches that amount with equal amounts of clean water in developing countries.
