Caribbean’s Most Eco-honored Resort Recertified Green Globe Platinum

Bucuti & Tara is only property worldwide to hold both highest scores

Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, Aruba’s commitment to guests and staff is to lead in defeating climate change and not to be defeated by it. As the Caribbean’s first certified carbon-neutral hotel cares for its treasured spot on Eagle Beach, it just achieved its 22nd recertification at the elite Green Globe Platinum level.

Green Globe Platinum, a crucial resource for curbing climate change

Bucuti & Tara holds the only two highest scores in Green Globe history, a 99 and a 100. The certification organization was born out of the United Nations’ famous 1992 Earth Summit. Green Globe represents the International Standard for Sustainability. Over almost three decades, it has grown to become the world’s leading certification for sustainable operation and management of travel and tourism worldwide.

As the world races to combat climate change, with 10% of devastating greenhouse emissions stemming from the travel and tourism sector, Green Globe helps industry members meet 44 criteria and 385 indicators based on a business’s type. The organization provides solutions, sustainability training, consultants and auditors, and even has marketing services to connect with the rapidly growing number of travelers who cite sustainability as a key requirement in their travel choices.

“Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort continues to be an example both regionally within Caribbean hospitality and globally within the tourism industry.  The resort is true to sustainability and uncompromising in its efforts to push boundaries and seek new practices to show that a zero-carbon operation is possible. Their commitment to the Green Globe criteria and ability to be sustainable as a primary focus of their operations, throughout the pandemic, speaks to their leadership and continuous innovation to maintain its carbon neutral goals" shares K. Denaye Hinds, CEO, JustaTAAD, LLC, Green Globe Auditor.

Statement from Green Globe CEO

Green Globe CEO Birte Pelayo says, “Recent years have been more than a challenge for our valued Green Globe members. All our certified hotels and resorts have had to utilize the resilience built upon their sustainable operations and management to innovate and adapt.

“During this time, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort has maintained its leadership position as Green Globe’s most sustainable hotel and resort with the high score of 99%. This achievement is the result of over a decade of commitment to considered and continuous improvement of its operations.

“As the world of travel reopens, the priority for Green Globe members has shifted to the social component of sustainable management. Recruiting employees back into our industry, along with training and reskilling has become urgent. Reconnecting local communities to tourism businesses that had previously been core economic contributors can only be done if strong links built over time have been maintained.

“Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort’s well-earned reputation as an employer of choice in Aruba, means that it has been able to quickly welcome back travelers by providing the highest standard of hospitality, which is a hallmark of Caribbean vacations. Bucuti & Tara’s elite status as a Green Globe PLATINUM member, also reassures resort guests that they will receive the highest quality holiday experience.”
