Green Globe Announces Nathaly Stanley as New Certification & Membership Care Manager

Green Globe announces the appointment of Nathaly Stanley as Certification and Member Care Manager. Nathaly has already established strong credentials as a sustainability professional in her home country Aruba. Formerly the Sustainability & Certification Manager at Bucuti & Tara Resort, Nathaly has been a member of Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism and a volunteer for TurtugAruba as well as being awarded AHATA’s Sustainability Champion of the Year, 2018

Nathaly is a graduate of both the University of Aruba and the University of Florida, where she majored in Science, Environmental Studies and International Tourism Management.

As Certification and Member Care Manager, Nathaly will work directly with Green Globe members and Green Globe’s international network of independent auditors to ensure the highest quality in sustainable performance.

Nathaly’s commitment to sustainable tourism comes from her deep appreciation of Aruba’s natural beauty. “My interest in sustainability arose from my fascination with nature. I feel it is very important for future generations to be able to experience nature as we do today, or optimistically, even better. To witness giant Leatherback turtles, return to the beaches where they hatched, or swim in oceans filled with vibrant corals and fish are examples of unforgettable experiences that we need to preserve for future generations. The only way to do this, is to mitigate Global Climate Change by making sustainable choices in business and our personal lives.” says Nathaly.

Adding, “I hope to make a difference in mitigating Climate Change by promoting companies to make sustainability a priority and assist existing members to improving their sustainability plans. Sustainability should become an integral part of any business plan and committing to become Green Globe certified is a great step in the right direction.”

With today’s travellers now more than ever interested in sustainable choices, Nathaly believes, “Sustainability practices are becoming more prominent in the tourism industry as it is a key aspect that guests are looking for when making travel plans, especially within the younger generations. Guests are becoming more attracted to having authentic experiences, getting in touch with nature in unspoiled environments, and are looking to positively impact the communities they are visiting. This has impacted businesses to adjust menus, activities, communications, and create partnerships within the community that may have seemed unlikely a decade ago,”

As part of her new role, Nathaly will be tasked with the unique challenge of assisting the global travel and tourism industry navigate out of the COVID-19 pandemic. “In my opinion COVID has had an ‘awakening’ effect, it has shown the world just how quickly circumstances can change. I believe this will positively affect sustainability plans of businesses in travel and tourism as it forces them to make changes in their operations,” says Nathaly.

And she adds, “COVID has normalized remote work and shown the world how resilient nature is. The seas were ever more beautiful with increased turtle sightings in coastal areas, and skies were blue in China. This proves it is possible restore natural areas and that remote work may be part of a sustainability plan to reduce emissions related to business travel.”

Core to Nathaly’s mission is to help remind Green Globe members of the important and positive role they are playing in making a better world each day and into the future. “We should not dismiss the small changes we can all make in our daily lives, collectively these make a big impact and become the new norms,’ concludes Nathaly.
