Mövenpick Resort & Residences Aqaba and Mövenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay: Promoting Sustainable Shores on the Gulf of Aqaba
In the most Southern corner of Jordan, on the shores of the Gulf of Aqaba, Mövenpick Resort & Residences Aqaba and Mövenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay offer travelers beachside vacations in luxury. Both resorts were some of the first Mövenpick properties to be certified in the Middle East and each holds the prestigious Green Globe GOLD status.
Recent onsite, certification audits, conducted by independent inspectors found both resorts once again earned high compliance ratings with Mövenpick Resort & Residences Aqaba reaching 90%, and Mövenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay 95% of the Green Globe sustainability indicators.
Layali Nashashibi, Cluster Director of Public and Community Relations, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Jordan says, "We uphold our commitment as a responsible hotel and resort operator, focusing on sustainability, and social responsibility, and expanding our eco-friendly initiatives. After earning the Green Globe and GOLD Green Globe awards, our aim is to reach the next level—the PLATINUM Green Globe award. We are dedicated to achieving this milestone through our unwavering dedication and look forward to completing more than 10 consecutive years of certification with Green Globe."
Offering the best in beach holidays, the resorts are proud to raise the 2023 Blue Flag and celebrate their consistent certification for beach care: over 14 years at Movenpick Resort & Residences Aqaba and over 13 years at Movenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay. Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognized voluntary eco-labels awarded to beaches with pure seawater, safe clean coasts, and well-organized access. To achieve this recognition, the resorts partnered with The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) to support their commitment to eco-friendly beach operations that are in line with Planet 21, and Accor Hotel's Corporate Social Responsibility. This year at Movenpick Aqaba, the resort team along with guests gathered on World Environment Day to conduct beach and sea cleaning activities.
As part of the resorts’ responsible sourcing and shift in food consumption, the Culinary Teams, led by Executive Chefs at Movenpick Aqaba and Movenpick Tala Bay, have formed a partnership with the Farm to Fork Organization in Jordan. This collaboration supports the utilization of organic, sustainable, locally sourced products, helping local farmers and fishermen in the region. On site at the resorts, the teams are also dedicated to utilizing fresh, organic, garden-cultivated ingredients sourced from their extensive Chef's Garden located within their properties.
In addition, the Culinary “Heartists” team are making a difference in the fight against food waste. The kitchens are now equipped with the cutting-edge Orbisk solution, an integrated measurement system that weighs and analyzes all steps from food preparation to consumption and waste disposal. This system champions practical changes that lead to reducing surplus.
Within the resorts, sustainability awareness extends across all departments with the belief that by providing environmentally friendly amenities and services, Mövenpick can meet the needs of eco-conscious travelers while simultaneously reducing their ecological footprint. These offerings encompass natural toiletries packaged in biodegradable materials, the availability of electric vehicle charging stations, and the promotion of nature-oriented activities that foster environmental awareness.
Movenpick Aqaba and Movenpick Tala Bay also believe in making real contributions to their local neighbors via annual contributions to the Mövenpick Kilo of Kindness Campaign. This year, along with the efforts of their sister properties in Jordan, the resorts and their partners and guests, collected a remarkable 1500 kilograms of charitable donations for the less privileged in their communities. During the holy month of Ramadan, Movenpick Hotels & Resorts Jordan, were proud to also be a part of distributing food parcels to families in need through the Tkiyat Um Ali Food for Life program and Nabe' Al Hayat Association at Qwaysmeh district in Amman.
This good work is further extended to the ongoing support of The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization Clothing bank in Amman, Jordan. And more recently management and staff from Movenpick Aqaba and Movenpick Tala Bay, had the privilege of spending a heartwarming day at the SOS Village in Aqaba. Team members greatly enjoyed playing games, sharing surprises, and presenting gifts of special Movenpick goodies. The day was filled with laughter, fun, and unforgettable memories; the smiles on the children’s faces were the greatest reward for all involved.
Clearly demonstrating Mövenpick Hotel & Resorts dedication to inclusivity in the workplace, all resorts have collectively been awarded the Best Places to Work for Women in Jordan in 2023. This award is determined through an electronic survey conducted in collaboration with Global Communities (Partners for Good). Most notably, 95% of Mövenpick’s female employees in Jordon expressed high levels of job satisfaction. Underpinning this significant accolade has been the fostering of a work environment where employees are valued, and empowered, and where their skills, innovation, hard work, and determination are acknowledged and celebrated as staff continue to develop into future leaders.
