The iconic Jumeirah Zabeel Saray is an opulent beachside resort located on Palm Island in Dubai in the UAE. The majestic charm and grace of the Ottoman era is featured in spectacular hand-painted ceilings, crafted marble, sparkling crystal chandeliers and magnificent works of art. While guest rooms are lavishly decorated and luxuriously comfortable. Visitors and families can enjoy the pristine private beach or spectacular infinity pool overlooking the Arabian Gulf.

Jumeirah Zabeel Saray recently received Green Globe recertification attaining a notable compliance score of 88%.

George Fares, Director of Engineering at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray said, “Being successfully accredited with the internationally renowned Green Globe Certification (GGC) two years in a row with a significant and noteworthy score is a proud achievement for me and for Jumeirah Zabeel Saray as a whole. It is indeed a wonderful acknowledgement as this shows our commitment to make a positive impact and is a great contribution to sustainable tourism.

“We are definitely on track as we aim to be the best Green Globe Certified property. This is possible with our proven teamwork and team spirit. I believe that together, we can do this! It has always been an honor to lead this initiative and to effectively implement and maintain the required standards,” added Mr Fares.

Jumeirah Zabeel Saray has concentrated its sustainable efforts on improving its resource management procedures in areas such as energy and water conservation.

In line with its energy saving strategy, the resort has continued with its installation of energy efficient LED lamps throughout the resort to replace incandescent, CFL and halogen lamps. In addition, a kitchen ecology unit has been installed to reduce pollution by extracting exhaust air from the kitchen hood. And a washing machine with a water reduction ecology unit has been deployed in the laundry.

As past of its water saving initiatives, the resort has fitted low-flow faucets and showerheads throughout the property in private and public areas. And a treated filtered water dispenser has been introduced in the staff cafeteria that caters for approximately one thousand staff members. This substantially reduces the amount of waste created by bottled water containers.

To lessen overall waste volume, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray has recycling programs in place for waste paper and cardboard, plastics, aluminium, glass and used oils. Recycling bins are located in back of house areas as well as offices. And the housekeeping department collects old batteries to recycle. The property has also installed electric hand dryers in public areas and in staff changing rooms thereby eliminating the use of paper towels.

“I am confident that as we move forward, we will be able to achieve more,” concluded Mr Fares.
