Acknowledging their pursuit of green initiatives and support for local culture, Turtle Beach Resort has recently been awarded Green Globe certification. The resort’s continuous improvement in sustainable management has been recognized as well as the importance placed on local education and staff training.
Turtle Beach’s quality checks on energy are comprehensive and are measured daily with an in-house utilities monitor that indicates usage of gas, electricity and water with the intention of eliminating wastage. Investment has been made in “Energy Eye”, an infra-red device that controls the regulation of A/C units. This has led to a 60% change from regular air conditioning units to environmentally friendly and energy efficient Inverter Technology. These efforts have been further enhanced by aggressive waste reduction through partnering with local recycling companies to re-purpose waste by recycling paper, card, glass and oil. Turtle Beach aims to reduce waste by 10% year on year.
General Manager, Charles Maynard, said, “We are delighted to receive the Green Globe certification in recognition of the work we do to ensure Turtle Beach remains as green as possible. As well as carefully monitoring our gas, electricity and water usage, we conserve energy through improved A/C and lighting technology. We are also very active in recycling our paper, cardboard, glass and oil, and are dedicated to meeting our 10% waste reduction target.”
GM Maynard added, “Our members of staff are also passionate about promoting and enhancing the local community and we have certain initiatives in place to make sure we benefit the lives of those around us. We support local schools with a career showcase and have even adopted a fantastic school nearby, Jones Private School, where we have already had lots of success, repainting the school building and many of our staff and guests have been really enthusiastic in getting involved in this scheme. Also, we know how important our beaches are to locals and visitors alike and we work with other like-minded companies to keep our beautiful stretch of white sandy beach pristine with regular clean up sessions as well as educating beach lovers on the hazards of littering.”
Guest activities at Turtle Beach are designed to educate and give clientele experiential opportunities so they can gain knowledge and support the “Bajan” culture. The resort attempts to engage stakeholders and provides details on the way it demonstrates commitment to sustainable tourism development.
