For years, the Sorell Hotel Ador in Bern, Switzerland, has been a pioneer in the field of sustainability and CO2 reduction. An exceptional commitment to socially and environmentally-friendly actions is integrated into the business philosophy, and those efforts recently earned Green Globe certification.

“We are one of the few hotels in Switzerland to be Green Globe certified, and we are extremely proud about the international recognition,” said Klaus Eisele, General Manager at the Sorell Hotel Ador. “The entire Sorell Team in Bern is continuously committed to finding new ways to reduce our impact on the environment. I feel that in the hospitality industry, we have to take an active role in minimizing our footprint, and raising awareness among our staff, guests, partners, suppliers, and all stakeholders.”

To ensure a sustainable operation, the Sorell Hotel Ador only works with certified contractors, suppliers, and products. Energy saving measures includes the installation of a new air conditioning system for all guest rooms, LED lighting fixtures throughout the property, and the connection to district heating, provided by the city of Bern. Socio-cultural initiatives include the creation of rooms, fit for people suffering from allergies.

The Sorell Hotel Ador is one of the founding members of United against Waste, a global effort, designed to help the food industry tackle the issue of food waste by creating awareness, sharing best practices, tools and resources with operators in all sectors of the industry. The organization works with 2 million chefs and cooks around the world.

Preservation of the natural environment is part of the hotel’s sustainability policy, and the property partners with Climate Platform Switzerland. On an international level, the Sorell Hotel Ador supports the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) ‘Alps Biodiversity’ initiative, aimed at preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Alps. The Alps are the largest and highest mountain system in Western Europe and can be considered a bio-geographical unit.

As part of its social responsibility, the Sorell Hotel Ador works with a number of charitable organizations, such as the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS). For over three decades, the SSCS has been dedicated to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans, in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately balanced ocean ecosystems, SSCS works to ensure their survival for future generations.
