Renowned for its quirky Dutch-inspired art and design by world-renowned designer Marcel Wanders, Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht is a five-star luxury lifestyle hotel located in the heart of Amsterdam overlooking the city’s iconic canals.

First certified in 2013, Green Globe recently recertified Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht.

The hotel remains firmly committed to its sustainability vision and over the past year has focused on efforts to better reduce its overall environmental footprint.

Energy Saving Strategy

Andaz Amsterdam has been busy upgrading its energy saving measures in 2020. A room automation system is being trialed in one guest room with the view to roll this out to all rooms. Contactless control units will replace key cards to turn energy on or off automatically depending on whether guests enter or leave a room. Energy consumption will thereby be reduced by approximately 35% on average and improved hygiene standards will be delivered in accordance with COVID-19 safety protocol.

Other large projects to be implemented in the near future include the changeover of all heat pumps to newer, more energy efficient systems fitted with smart meters to manage consumption and flow. In addition, over 80 fluorescent lights have already been replaced with LEDs across the property and the hotel will gradually transition to 100% LED lighting.

Minimizing Environmental Impacts

Filtered water fountains have been installed in public spaces to encourage guests to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles. In line with this strategy to minimize impacts, the hotel has designed its very own Andaz thermos bottle, which keeps water cold/hot for 24 hours and can be purchased from the Front Office. To further reduce waste volume, all used Nespresso capsules from the hotel public areas, guestrooms and offices are separated and collected. Nespresso then upcycles the spent capsules into exciting products such as bicycles, pens and plant compost.

Unique Dutch Experiences

At the Bluespoon Bar & Restaurant, waste is kept to a minimum as every last bit of ingredients are used in their signatory craft cocktails. From coffee granules, to orange rinds, overripe bananas and even eggshells, the creative bar team ensure this would-have-been waste is put to good use.

Andaz Amsterdam is launching new innovative sustainable initiatives to provide extra value to guests and immerse them in local experiences. The complimentary weekly program will be enhanced with a Neighbourhood Scavenger Hunt Walk, Live Like a Local Bike Tour, and a Morning Run and Hotel Story Tour.
