For years, Breezes Bahamas Resort & Spa has demonstrated a firm commitment to sustainable operations and environmental awareness. With a designated Green Team on staff, this super-inclusive resort has made conservation of the environment and green initiatives a priority. All efforts were recently awarded their first Green Globe certification.
“We are thrilled that Breezes Bahamas’ environmental efforts earned the international recognition,” said Zein Issa Nakash, Super Club’s Vice President of Marketing and Environmental Affairs. “We feel very strong about doing our part to minimize waste and preserve the island’s natural beauty and attractions. We signed on to Green Globe to ensure that we are utilizing best practices globally, and setting benchmarks for continual environmental improvements year after year.”
A long-term Sustainability Management System is in effect at Breezes Bahamas Resort – environmental goals are specified and monitored on a regular basis. The entire resort is equipped with energy efficient lighting and energy management control systems, and guests are encouraged to conserve energy during their stay. Some of Breezes Bahamas’ best practices include reducing landfill by composting organic waste to nurture the hotel’s herb and vegetable gardens, and taking an active and aggressive role in reducing waste by recycling products used in the operational process, such as cardboard, paper, cans, and oils. The resort maintains a policy of favoring certified suppliers, located in the region.
Breezes Bahamas Resort partners with the Bahamas National Trust (BNT) a local organization, promoting the conservation of natural resources in The Bahamas. The BNT is a unique legislated non-government organization. Charged with developing and managing The Bahamas National Park System, the trust is the only non-governmental organization in the world with such a mandate. Since the early 1980’s the BNT has played a leadership role in the protection of the Bahama Parrot, and was the first to breed this endangered species in captivity. Education programs for Bahamian youth were established more than 30 years ago. Today, thousands of Bahamian school children have experienced nature through organized visits to national parks and award-winning presentations.
