Nick Porter picFor several years Movenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable operations and management, with a proactive approach to identifying and promoting ecologically sustainable strategies, The resort attributes the success of its conservation efforts to the integration of sustainability policies into the company’s business strategy and daily practices.

The long-term sustainability management system in effect at the resort includes daily energy consumption monitoring and water usage reduction targets. Fresh water is sourced from a company-owned treatment plant, located in the nearby municipality. Overall waste reduction targets are achieved through comprehensive reuse/recycle and packaging minimization initiatives, while purchasing policy favors suppliers adhering to ecological sustainability practices. Recently, the hotel introduced a new line of eco-friendly water bottles and bathroom amenities.

Staff involvement is crucial; all new staff attend Sustainability Awareness training during their orientation program; in addition courses are held throughout the year on Energy Awareness and Waste Management. Guest involvement is also a key element; guests are given the choice to have their bed linens and towels changed on alternate days, instead of daily, and waste containers around the resort are separated and clearly marked for guest convenience.

“We are very proud of our achievements in sustainable operations at the resort, and our partnership with Green Globe,” said Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket General Manager Nick Porter, “The resort is committed to promoting sustainability and our commitment is reflected in our management principles and our daily practices. It is our goal to reduce the environmental impact at all levels, and to encourage our partners, guests and staff to do the same”.
