The Stadthalle Braunschweig Betriebsgesellschaft recently received Green Globe re-certification for the Stadthalle Braunschweig (City Hall) and the Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig (Volkswagen Hall). Both convention centres were awarded outstanding compliance scores of 98%. Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig was also awarded Gold status marking five consecutive years of certification.
Multifaceted and versatilely multifunctional, the Stadthalle Braunschweig guarantees a particularly comprehensive venue for the people in the city of Braunschweig and the region. The Stadthalle Braunschweig is the largest congress centre in the most research-intensive region of Europe, a well-established venue for international conferences, congresses, party conventions and annual general meetings.
In line with its sustainability strategy, ease of access for guests with physical impairments has been a major undertaking at the centre/hall.
Stephan Lemke, Managing Director of the Stadthalle Braunschweig Betriebsgesellschaft explained, “For visitors with impairments and /or their relatives, we have prepared all relevant information that includes the outdoor area and seating plans, in a new and very detailed manner on our website.”
“In addition, the information is now summarized in a special Accessibility Brochure that is available free of charge and can be collected in the halls. We hope in this way, we can reduce any misconceptions that may be preventing people from attending an event that they would really like to go to but are afraid that it’s not possible,” added Kamilla Meyer-Ulex, Sustainability Officer at the Stadthalle Braunschweig Betriebsgesellschaft.
Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig
The Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig is the largest covered location in the Braunschweig region. World stars from show and entertainment, celebrities from politics and the media, maestros of classical music and heroes of sports, comedians and champions, magicians and masters – the Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig offers them all with space for up to 8,000 visitors.
Energy saving measures have been updated at the Volkswagen Halle as part of its Sustainability Management Plan. This year, the Centre finally completed the changeover to energy efficient lighting in outdoor areas. After completion of the transition to LED lighting in the south parking area of the Volkswagen Halle Braunschweig, the north area then followed with LEDs fitted on numerous lighting poles in bicycle stand areas. A total of 29 outdoor lights have now been converted to LED lamps.
“Sustainable trade – especially in ecological terms – is quite a challenge in the Braunschweig town hall that is in need of renovation. But it is just the many, supposedly small, improvements that all add up to a good result,” concluded Stephan Lemke.
