Sri Lanka Hotel stands out with CSR Initiatives
December 6, 2013 Arton Kabashi

In line with the John Keells Leisure Group pledge ‘I Will Care’, Green Globe member, the Bentota Beach Hotel in Bentota, Sri Lanka, joined hands with the Medical and Health Officers at the local Maternity Clinic Sooriyagama, to raise awareness among pregnant mothers on HIV-Aids – commemorating World Aids Day on December 01. The program was organized by the management and staff of the Bentota Beach Hotel.

The key objective of the event was to educate pregnant women on how HIV-Aids could be identified during the pregnancy period, to offer proper treatment before children are born. 70 pregnant mothers and the Public Health Inspector of the Bentota area participated at the seminar, which was held at the “Gallery” at the hotel.

Just a few days earlier, on November 12, the Bentota Beach Hotel team was involved in another corporate social responsibility project at the maternity clinic at Sooriyagama, Haburugala. Hotel management representatives Mr. Marlon Robert, Mr. Krishantha Wanigasekara, Mrs. Swarna Kumarasinghe, and Ruwan Vidanapathirana, visited the clinic to identify operational needs. The hotel donated hand towels, table clothes, electric kettles and flasks, a new water filter, weighing scales, and a minibar refrigerator.

“Access to early HIV diagnosis, although critical for prompt initiation of antiretroviral therapy in HIV-positive children, is extremely limited in South Asia,” commented Mrs. Swarna Kumarasinghe, Administration Executive at the Bentota Beach Hotel. “We are committed to support the community, and do what we can to contribute to an Aids-free generation in the region.”

The Bentota Beach Hotel belongs to the small group of Elite Green Globe Members, renowned to lead by example. This property stands out with their CSR initiatives and numerous awareness programs.
