Green Globe member Secret Bay resort has been named the #1 Resort Hotel in the Caribbean, Bermuda & the Bahamas by Travel + Leisure as well as #6 Hotel in the World on the esteemed travel publication’s Top 100 list. The six-star all-villa rainforest resort is located on the idyllic island of Dominica.
When asked what it has meant to win such prestigious awards, Gregor Nassief, Proprietor of the resort said, “Given the disruptive time that the travel industry is now experiencing, the awards are an acknowledgement of the entire team’s commitment to delivering truly exceptional experiences. I am immensely proud.”
“When we first opened Secret Bay in 2011, my wife and I — as well as our eight employees — had never worked in hospitality before. It became Dominica’s first luxury property, and with just four villas, probably one of the smallest boutique properties in the world. So, as you can imagine, it was an adventure in every sense. “
Mr Nassief went further to explain that all the team at Secret Bay wanted to achieve an experience that would allow guests to reconnect with nature, themselves and the ones they love. Everything revolved around that. This meant preserving the natural environment by designing villas that would reflect the luxury of time and space that would foster the utmost intimacy and privacy and, above all, provide discreet six-star service that would go above and beyond guests’ greatest expectations — every minute of the day.
With the addition of The Residences and four new villas to be launched this November, Secret Bay will continue to expand beyond its original four sustainable luxury villas. However, the resort will become an even lower density property than exists today, decreasing land allocated for development from 9 percent to 7 percent. As such, the tangible sense of intimacy and privacy that Secret Bay has become known for will forever stay intact.
