December 9, 2020 Bradley Cox

Green Globe member Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva is the first hotel to achieve Platinum status in Switzerland and only the second property in Europe to be awarded this prestigious title. The hotel is the very first Mövenpick Hotel to receive 10 years of continuous certification by Green Globe, a significant milestone in its overall sustainability performance.

Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva is conveniently located near Geneva International Airport and its train station. Green transportation options include a complimentary shuttle that takes hotel guests to and from the airport. Guests also receive a complimentary public transportation pass for travel within Geneva on tram, bus and train services and leisurely trips across Lake Geneva by ferry.

The hotel continues to support the commitments it firmly believes in – environmental responsibility and the local community.

The Building Management System has delivered substantial savings in energy consumption. After technical modifications to air conditioning units were completed in 2016, energy reductions of over 316 000 electric Kilowatts and 255 000 thermic KW were made. In 2019, more than 1 million francs was invested in the replacement of cold units and heat recovery systems to further improve energy conservation.

Recognition of local sustainable businesses and artisans is of key importance to the property. Many regional and local products are used in kitchens including fresh fish from Swiss lakes and traditional Swiss cheeses. One biodiversity initiative also supported by the property is the sponsorship of two beehives at Stéphanie’s Hives in Savigny. Organic honey production is estimated to be about 10 kg per year which can be enjoyed by guests during breakfast.

The hotel reopened in June this year and has implemented new ALLSAFE health and safety measures.
