Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle Recognized as Industry Leader in Sustainability
November 20, 2013 Arton Kabashi

Green Globe member, the Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle, is deeply mindful of its ecological footprint. Since its opening six years ago, this upscale property has demonstrated leadership and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency and globally responsible practices on multiple levels. All efforts recently earned Green Globe re-certification.

“Pan Pacific Hotel is thrilled to earn the esteemed Green Globe Certification for the second consecutive year,” said Pan Pacific General Manager Sam Johnson. “Our associates remain committed to the guiding principles of our acclaimed PanEarth® program, serving our community and planet. We are honored to be recognized as an industry leader in sustainability and social responsibility.”

Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle’s award-winning PanEarth® sustainability program was created in January 2011 and the resulting benefits have been immense. While setting benchmarks for environmental efforts, the PanEarth® program works closely with both local and internationally focused charitable organizations, contributing to social causes such as hunger relief, community wellness and economic security. The culture created at the Pan Pacific Seattle is one of supporting the local community through fundraising and staff-wide volunteer activities.

The hotel works closely with a number of community partners, such as YouthCare, an organization that reaches out to victims of domestic abuse and neglect, failed by foster care and other overworked support systems. YouthCare provides homeless teens with a stable place to live, meals, and training for a career path. Hotel associates plan and prepare an annual Halloween lunch for the teens. Many hours are dedicated to various volunteer activities including a shoreline clean-up at Lake Union, conducted in conjunction with the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance. Volunteers clean beaches, waterways, and the shoreline to remove harmful trash and debris. During the on-water events volunteers paddle kayaks, canoes and small boats to find trash in hard to reach spots along the shore, transferring or towing large debris safely to shore with larger boats.

Pan Pacific’s zero-impact policy encourages guests to support a carbon-neutral stay and to minimize their environmental footprint. Guests can purchase a credit for the generation of clean wind energy. The hotel matches all donations towards renewable energy credits, with 10% of total proceeds going to beneficiaries at Food Lifeline, a local non-profit organization for hunger relief.
