Green Globe member, the Mövenpick Resort Taba in Egypt, once again confirmed its leading position in Egyptian tourism for environmental awareness. For the past few years this luxury hotel has demonstrated a firm commitment to sustainable management and operational efficiency. The success of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts sustainability efforts lies in its integration into their business strategy.
“Hearing the good news that we are Green Globe certified for the third consecutive year, proves that we are successfully moving in line with our corporate strategy regarding global sustainability,” said Mr. Goneid Moheb, General Manager at the Mövenpick Resort Taba. “Sustainable development is essential in all our practices, and we are working towards engaging all our employees in this initiative. Sustainability to us means meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Working with Green Globe has helped our team to better understand the benefits of green strategy projects, and we are very proud about our achievement.”
Mövenpick Resort Taba fosters responsible practices, such as curbing energy and water consumption to a minimum, to preserve the environment. The property conducts various projects on alternative green energy sources and water conservation. Waste volume, weight and reduction goals are specified, garbage is being segregated per the hotel’s waste management policy. Packaging is reduced to a minimum and local suppliers are given preference. Awareness among guests is promoted through a comprehensive communications strategy, which includes information on natural surroundings, local cultures, cultural heritage and appropriate behavior while visiting heritage sites.
One of the main strategic objectives of the business is to invest in their own people, sharing decision making and planning processes. “Learning and development is our magic tool,” added Mr. Goneid Moheb. “Our staff is the most valuable power driving the hotel, and our team benefits from regular training seminars and promotions.”
Taba is the gateway to Sinai – magnificent landscapes, breathtaking mountains, and the alluring turquoise waters of the Gulf of Aqaba set the stage for the Mövenpick Resort Taba. This is the meeting point of four countries, with views of Jordan, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.
The audit for the Mövenpick Resort Taba was conducted by Farnek Middle East, lead sustainable consultancy in the MENA region. For additional information please contact Sandrine Le Biavant, e-mail: Sandrine.LeBiavant@farnek.com.
