The 5-star Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali in Indonesia embraces island living with a vibrant culinary scene and tranquil Balinese wellness facilities. Pristine Jimbaran Beach is just 100 metres away.
Green Globe awarded Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali its first certification in February with the hotel receiving a high compliance score of 89%.
Mr. Horst Walther Jones, General Manager at the resort said, “We are particularly focused on treading lightly and minimizing our impact We are delighted with our first Green Globe certification and hope that it marks the beginning of many more similar accreditations. It is directly in line with the philosophy held by our respected developer/owning company, PT. Summarecon Agung Tbk, to protect the environment and adhere to sustainable business practices. This is an exceptional achievement for all of our team members, especially as we are only in our second year of operation. It is further proof that we are dedicated to making a positive contribution to sustainable tourism development on the island and the immediate environment.”
The latest technology has been deployed at the property that greatly assists in achieving sustainability target goals. Energy usage is routinely monitored each month and controlled on a daily basis. By following these procedures energy costs were reduced by 5% from 2017 to 2018. Ninety percent of lighting is energy efficient with sensors installed throughout public areas. The resort also follows a bulb replacement strategy at the restaurant, replacing ordinary bulbs with LED. The total energy cost reduction is 11.8% as a result of this energy saving measure.
Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali has been successful in significantly reducing the number of plastic bottles previously used by guests. In 2018, plastic bottles were replaced with reusable glass bottles saving around 147 000 plastic bottles. Plastic disposables and straws in restaurants have also been removed and replaced with biodegradable materials in efforts to stem the global plastic waste crisis.
The resort team’s dedicated commitment to give back to the community has inspired the creation of various projects. Recently a grand total of IDR 1 billion was raised at a fundraising event held for the earthquake victims in Lombok. Thousands were left homeless by the devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the island in August last year. In addition, management and staff at Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali are involved in local community initiatives that support residents in their daily life. Social responsibility programs have been established to support adults and children living with autism, the employment of disabled people at the property, the maintenance and protection of mangrove plantations, turtle release projects and also beach clean ups to preserve the pristine natural environment.
