Green Globe congratulates Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna on its Gold Membership status marking five years of certification.

Environmental conservation practices are an inherent part of the hotel operation and have been adopted and applied by the team members within their work routine. Energy and water saving measures and installations include energy saving lamps, power control keys, A/C control buttons, water saving devices and towel/linen change options. The resort’s grey water is treated and reused to irrigate the gardens by dripping system. Special emphasis is given to waste management, supported by the nearby recycling plant of El Gouna, where 90% of all waste being delivered is recycled and re-used.
The Green Team with representatives from all department is meeting on a regular basis to follow up on action plans, new ideas, guest awareness activities and to set new goals to continuously improve the environmental performance of the resort.

Walied El Faramawy, Training Manager in charge of Sustainability states: “Within our SHINE activities, we have set objectives to support on regular basis the living and educational situation for the children and population of “Zerzara” in Hurghada.
Hurghada, the popular tourist destination on the Red Sea, has known a tremendous growth and development in the past 20 years. A large number of hotels, new residential areas, shopping malls and a good infrastructure are presenting Hurghada in a positive image and the city on the Red Sea has recently been rewarded as ‘Best Arab Tourist Destination 2015’. But behind this bright image lies a reality that is often forgotten or ignored: The area of Zerzara in Hurghada is home to thousands of underprivileged people, struggling to survive with a monthly average income of 400-700 Egyptian Pounds per family, equivalent to USD 3 per day. This is where we want to help and contribute to a better life, especially for the children.”
In cooperation with local primary schools, the hotel is sponsoring for the second consecutive year pupils by paying the annual school fee, purchasing a uniform set and shoes and offering them a school bag filled with stationary and school utensils.
The engineering team of the hotel has visited the local primary school and conducted needed repair and maintenance works, as well as installed a new water pump, which has been donated by the hotel.
For the cooler winter months, the hotel has purchased blankets and woolen covers for the people in need of Zerzara. A donation activity among the hotel team members has allowed also to offer shoes to over 50 children.
Furthermore, the resort management promotes actively the employment of young people with disabilities and supports young students of the local hotel school within their studies and professional development.
