Since its opening in 2008, Green Globe member, the Mövenpick Resort El Sokhna in Egypt, has demonstrated outstanding efforts and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency and corporate responsibility. Protecting the environment and energy conservation has always been a top priority at this beautiful resort on the shores of the Red Sea, and all efforts recently earned certification for the second time.

“At our resort we believe in the importance of meeting the current needs, while at the same time preserving and contributing to the future for generations to come. Our practices reflect Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ corporate philosophy,” said Amr Asaad, General Manager at Mövenpick Resort El Sokhna. “We are so proud about our achievements, and the feedback I personally receive from our guests is overwhelmingly positive and supportive of our sustainability programs. We will continue to improve our efforts, creating a better environment for today and for years to come.”

The Mövenpick Resort El Sokhna is surrounded by the Attaka Mountains and the Red Sea, resembling a green oasis with colorful gardens, and a private island connected by a bridge. The values of quality, reliability, and care are fundamental in guiding this upscale property towards best sustainable business practices. A special Green Team, formed of staff members from different departments, monitors the progress of eco-friendly measures, shaping and realizing the hotel’s environmental goals.

Energy usage and water consumption are recorded, greenhouse gas emissions from all sources controlled by the business are calculated. In addition, the property conducts various projects on alternative green energy sources and water conservation. Guests are encouraged to minimize their environmental footprint and join local activities promoting awareness. The hotel does offer a number of options for sustainable meetings and events.

One of the main strategic objectives of the business is to invest in their own people, sharing decision making and planning processes. “Learning and development is our magic tool,” added Mr. Amr Asaad. “Our staff is the most valuable power driving the hotel, and our team benefits from regular training seminars and promotions.”

A comprehensive sustainability audit was carried out by Farnek Middle East, the lead sustainable consultancy in the MENA region.
