Mövenpick Hotels in Switzerland raise Awareness for Pediatric Cancer

Over the past few years, Mövenpick Hotel Zürich-Airport and sister property, Mövenpick Hotel Zürich-Regensdorf, have increasingly integrated sustainable practices into the front and back of house operations, and into the community. Both hotels count among the top performing Green Globe members worldwide, and impress with a pledge to live the Green Globe principles on a daily basis.

On Saturday, May 24, 2014, staff members at both hotels will put on their running shoes to participate in a “charity fun run”, in support of the Swiss Association to fight Pediatric Cancer. Every runner will collect a contribution from sponsors for each completed round (400 m), committed to raising the maximum amount for the good cause. The charitable event is organized by hotel trainees, and will take place at the Zurich Affoltern Sports Arena.

“Every year about 200 children are diagnosed with cancer in Switzerland,” explained Sandy Decker, Environmental Officer at Mövenpick Hotel Zürich-Airport. “With the upcoming charity run, we would like to promote awareness of pediatric cancer, and raise money to expedite the search for a cure.”

Considerable efforts have been made at Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts to educate staff members and reach out into the wider community, creating properties clearly dedicated to both personal responsibility and informing, empowering and improving the surrounding environment.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts uses the framework for Strategic Sustainable Development, a proven science based model helping businesses to better understand and integrate sustainability in its strategy and operations. The framework was initiated by the Swedish born international NGO, The Natural Step (www.thenaturalstep.org). The framework contains logical guidelines to identify current challenges, future possibilities and smart-step-wise approaches to move towards sustainability and to capitalize on a more distinguished way of sustainability driven markets.
