Feb 13, 2013, Los Angeles, CA – Green Globe announces re-certification of the Mövenpick Hotel Zurich-Regensdorf, in Zurich, Switzerland. This 4-star business hotel identifies and promotes sustainable strategies, and has demonstrated corporate social responsibility for the past few years – in line with Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts vision and values. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts believe that people want to be part of the solution and want to contribute to a positive future.
“It is our responsibility to save the future of our planet and to preserve nature for the next generations,” said Norbert Fontana, General Manager at the Mövenpick Hotel Zurich-Regensdorf. “Sustainability is a very important part of our daily work and we educate our employees and partners on responsible practices. We have to realize that even the small things, easy to do for everyone, bring us closer to a sustainable society. We all have to learn to carefully use our resources and not to waste them. The Mövenpick Hotel Zurich-Regensdorf is very proud to be Green Globe certified and we will continuously increase our environmental efforts.”
A long term sustainability management system is in effect at the Mövenpick Hotel Zurich-Regensdorf, and over the past five years energy consumption was cut down considerably. External air-conditioning and a heat recovery system reduced the use of heating by 55%. Environmentally-friendly actions are at the heart of all operations through initiatives such as the introduction of LED lighting, motion sensors, eco-certified cleaning products and amenities, and a strict recycling and waste separation policy. Packaging is reduced to a minimum and the purchasing policy favors fair-trade products and local suppliers adhering to environmental practices.
The Mövenpick Hotel Zurich-Regensdorf supports the Climate Cent Foundation, a voluntary measure of the Swiss industry aimed at efficient climate protection. The foundation invests in projects designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, both in Switzerland and abroad. Emissions reductions are determined following nationally and internationally recognized guidelines, and can be claimed by Switzerland towards the fulfillment of its reduction target.
Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented, “We are extremely pleased to award re-certification to the Mövenpick Hotel Zurich-Regensdorf in Switzerland. This property has taken a systematic approach to measure all the operational savings that have been made through the reduction of energy and water usage and non-recyclable waste. At the same time real commitments have been made to support the local community and charities through donations and sponsorship.”
