Mövenpick Hotel in the Netherlands becomes a local Ambassador
November 27, 2013 Arton Kabashi

‘Think Global, Act Local’ is the motto at Mövenpick Hotel Hertogenbosch in Hertogenbosch, in the Netherlands. A top performing Green Globe member for years, this property’s commitment encompasses environmental, employer, and social sustainability.

“We take responsibility for the harmful effects our operations have on both, the local and global environment, and we are dedicated to reduce our impact,” said Wim van der Steen, General Manager at the Mövenpick Hotel Hertogenbosch. “As every year, we are honored to earn Green Globe re-certification for our hotel. This prestigious recognition will encourage us to facing new challenges, and to continue raising the standard of our best practices, in line with Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ vision and values.”

Mövenpick Hotel Hertogenbosch is actively involved with the community, local projects and charitable events. In collaboration with the cultural institutions in the city, the hotel recently launched a city marketing campaign, becoming an “AMBOSCHadeur” (ambassador). “We are proud about our city, and we are happy to promote the area’s nature, history, and culture,” commented Wim van der Steen. At Mövenpick Hotel Hertogenbosch a special effort is being made to choose local producers, and 90% of all products purchased by the hotel are produced by Dutch suppliers adhering to eco-friendly practices.

The hotel is a member of ‘Natuurmonumenten’, a non-profit society dedicated to improve the quality of life in the Netherlands, by preserving nature, landscape and cultural history. Acquiring natural areas, the society can protect native animals and plants and enable people to enjoy the countryside by providing footpaths, cycle paths, observation points and excursions.

Another program that finds strong support at Mövenpick Hotel Hertogenbosch is the Climate Neutral Group, a social venture that strives towards a 100% climate neutral world. This non-profit organization assists businesses in making the transition to climate neutrality, and develops climate-neutral devices and products for their customers. The Climate Neutral Group promotes various renewable energy projects, such as ‘The Paradigm Project’, aiming to improve health and incomes in Kenya. By replacing traditional cooking on an open fire with clean and sustainable cook stoves, CO2 emissions are reduced and carbon credits generated.

“Sustainability is about future generations, therefore, we would like to make sure they grow up in a positive environment, and live a healthy, joyful life,” concluded General Manager Wim van der Steen.
