The Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva, located in Switzerland’s second largest city, is ideally located near the airport, the Palexpo exhibition and congress centre and just minutes away from the city centre. Guests and business delegates alike can stroll around Lake Leman, explore the beautiful Mont-Blanc and historic Chillon Castle or visit the vineyards of the Lake coast.

Green Globe recently re-certified the Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva for the fourth year running. Significant achievements by staff and management have been made in the areas of community development and resource management.

Renan Noguellou, Technical Director at Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva said,” What we are particularly proud of here at the Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva, is the level of engagement of all employees as well as our hotel and restaurant guests. Our special team of 12 people actively manage all sustainable events as well as monitor the progress of various initiatives.”

During the Christmas period this year, Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva will issue a check of CHF 5,500 to the Geneva Red Cross. This is the total amount of money raised over 2015 from the Left Over Change Box that guests donated to upon check out and from various events organized by the hotel’s sustainable hotel team – the Shine Team. The check will be officially handed over to a local Red Cross representative on December 23rd during an afternoon Christmas party organized for the children of hotel employees.

Another social initiative was held last September with proceeds donated to charity. The Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva and a team of sixteen staff participated at the Terres de Hommes Geneva race event by running an outdoor Pancakes and Waffles stall. The group collected CHF 2,900 which was handed over to Terre des Hommes International Federation, a network of ten national organisations working for the rights of children and to promote equitable development without racial, religious, political, cultural or gender-based discrimination.

To promote protection of its local environment, Mövenpick Hotel & Casino’s staff worked in collaboration with Sol à tous, a volunteer group that manages regular clean ups of various sites such as forests, fields and along roadsides to combat the damage caused by pollution created by non-biodegradable waste. Hotel staff also assisted with cleaning the Beach of Allaman located on the shore of Lake Geneva. In addition, colleagues assisted the Summit foundation to clean the slopes of Ski Resorts Verbier and collected a total of 200 kilograms of garbage.

Effective resource management is another priority at Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva. A new Building Management system (BMS) has been installed that has resulted in substantial savings in energy consumption. In just one year the hotel has saved 20% on its overall energy bills. Furthermore, since 2014, the hotel has started a program of replacing all traditional incandescent bulbs with energy efficient lighting. The hotel is now at the stage where 70% of all lamps are LED or low energy consumption lamps.

“Hotel and restaurant guests recognize and appreciate our true commitment to a sustainable approach within our business. For example, through our use of MSC labelled seafood (Marine Stewardship Council) at our restaurants,” added Mr. Noguellou.

The hotel’s kitchens showcase traditional Swiss dishes using fresh fish caught from Swiss lakes and delicious items such as cheese sourced from local suppliers. And guests can also savor the flavors of Japanese delicacies particularly sushi and sashimi that are enhanced by the qualities of fish produced using sustainable fishing practices.
