In 2011, Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva was one the first hotels in the Mövenpick Hotel & Resort company to be certified by Green Globe, and today holds Gold Member status. With its successful annual audit completed, the hotel now moves into its 7th year of certification.
Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva offers great amenity for both business and leisure travellers. Located near Geneva International Airport, the hotel provides complimentary public transportation to Geneva’s city centre as a green transport alternative. Business travellers also enjoy close proximity to the Palexpo convention centre, while leisure guests love that Lake Geneva and the Alps are nearby.
With years of experience on its side, Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva continues to implement solid sustainability practices throughout the property. Their original and continuing green initiatives have resulted in Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts becoming the most Green Globe certified hotel company in the world.
Throughout the year, hotel employees focus on sustainable activities led by the Shine Team – the management and employee sustainability group. These activities are varied and range from cleaning litter from local ski resorts through to raising funds for the local branch of the Red Cross.
Successful Red Cross fundraising events have included, promotion and sale of special cocktails and menus items to celebrate international Earth Hour, where lights are switched off to conserve energy and raise awareness.
Staff at Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva are also very concerned for the protection of children. In support of Terre des Hommes International Federation, the hotel set up an outdoor Pancakes and Waffles stall at the group’s charity events and generated CHF 2,500 that was donated to the International Federation.
In addition last year, sponsorship was organised for Switzerland’s Race for Gift, which provides contributions to 22 charitable organizations.
On the environmental side, the hotel’s Building Management System (BMS) has delivered another year of substantial savings in energy consumption. The hotels air conditioning has been modified and delivered reductions of 316,000 electric Kilowatts and 255,000 thermic KW in the last 12 months.
The hotel is now at the stage where 80% of all lamps are LED or low energy consumption lights. All taps in the room’s kitchens and common areas have been changed, and the hotel has improved from 0.27 m3 to 0.24 m3 water use per room last year.
