The Green Team at Mövenpick Hotel Casablanca has excelled in their first certification achieving a score of 90%.
The Mövenpick Hotel Casablanca is centrally located within the business district of Casablanca and only a short distance from the Old Medina, an historic marketplace full of colour and culture. Conveniently for travellers, the hotel is also easily reachable from both Casablanca Mohamed VI Airport and Casablanca Voyageurs Train Station.
The Mövenpick Hotel Casablanca was certified following an onsite audit inspection in November 2016. The hotel features 184 rooms and 143 employees have implemented various sustainability measures to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a better life for guests and locals alike.
General Manager, Mr Amr Kallini says, “ We are truly devoted to our environment, employees, guests and community not only in words, but in sustainable deeds.
“The different steps taken towards the certification have inspired all employees and have contributed to the development of a green spirit within the hotel,” added General Manager Kallini.
Energy and water consumption are monitored, recorded and benchmarked monthly. A re-lamping program to replace incandescent bulbs with energy efficient LEDs, close monitoring of A/C units, along with low flow shower heads, have respectively contributed to the reduction of energy and water consumption.
The F&B team uses local and seasonal products daily to prepare its dishes and vegan and vegetarian dishes are on offer to restaurant guests.
Waste management has been instituted, recorded and monitored monthly. The hotel also invites its guests to participate in a voluntary environment protection program by re-using their towels and bed linen. Guests have supported this project and approximately 6,000 kilograms of linen are being re-used per month, which has resulted in significant energy and water savings, as well as less chemical usage. Double-glazing on guest room windows is another initiative and reduces noise pollution.
The Mövenpick Casablanca Hotel and its employees are also involved in social initiatives and support SOS Villages D’enfants through donations and offering internships to young people to facilitate their integration to the workforce.
