Morena Eco Resort in Curaçao is a unique place to spend a wonderful Caribbean vacation for everyone who has the environment at heart. At the luxurious and tranquil Eco Resort, both guests and the natural environment are treated with equal importance.
Green Globe recently recertified Morena Eco Resort for the sixth year in a row.
Vera van der Wielen, General manager at Morena Eco Resort said, “We are very proud and happy to be recertified by Green Globe for another year. Eva Meijer our new Environmental Officer, has been responsible for the resort successfully passing the audit. Eva has been working with us since February and despite the hard times during the Covid-19 lock-down period, she was able to complete the audit, which we are very grateful for.”
Throughout these challenging times Morena Eco Resort has continued to pursue new sustainable initiatives.
Morena Resort has introduced paperless check-in and check-out procedures for guests. The resort sends an update including check-in protocol, hotel regulations and also the guidelines regarding the local COVID-19 situation via What’s App. During their entire stay guests can also communicate with resort staff via What’s App and invoices are received by e-mail prior to check-out. Guests can be reassured that the friendly contact they are accustomed to is not all lost with the use of the new electronic measures. A warm welcome is extended to all guests upon arrival and the full attention of resort team members is focussed on providing high quality personalized services during each guest’s entire stay.
Going paperless is also promoted amongst staff who are encouraged to minimize the number of printing jobs undertaken. Furthermore, monthly pay slips, the Morena Newsletter and other correspondence relating to operational procedures are delivered by e-mail in efforts to reduce paper usage.
To reduce impacts on the environment, eco-friendly products are in use at the property. The resort has four swimming pools ((3 pools and one children’s pool) that uses a salt-electrolysis system. One of the pool areas has recently undergone renovations and a completely new salt-electrolysis system has been installed. The implementation of this new technology produces very low chloride levels which is even better for the planet.
Another green project currently being trialed is the installation of solar panels on some of the resort’s rooftops to monitor the potential of harnessing solar energy. Morena will consider investing in more solar panels based on the results.
