Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Hajar Tower Makkah is a five-star property offering excellently appointed hotel rooms and suites in the centre of Makkah. Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Hajar Tower Makkah forms part of the prestigious Abraj Al Bait complex. The hotel is located directly on the Haram Court, facing the King Abdul Aziz Gate.

Green Globe recently recertified Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Hajar Tower Makkah for the seventh consecutive year.

The hotel received an outstanding compliance score of 88% in acknowledgment of its sustainable management and operations. Best practices at the Saudi Arabian property include energy and carbon reduction initiatives, excellent communication strategies and equitable hiring policies.

Reducing CO2 Footprint

The Hotel is making great efforts to reduce its energy and water consumption and CO2 emissions. The Hotel Optimizer software is used to set, monitor and update energy and water consumption targets on a monthly basis. KPIs and targets are set for continuous improvements in energy, water and waste consumption on an annual basis. New sustainability initiatives are then based on these annual figures.

Power management is controlled via EMS & BMS systems and key cards. More than 95% of lighting fixtures utilize LED, CFL and other energy efficient lighting. Furthermore, the building has a white roof to reflect heat and sunlight, and Housekeeping staff ensure blinds and curtains are drawn during peak summer periods to keep temperatures down in vacant guest rooms.

Communication Strategy

Effective communication enables guests, staff and the general public to understand and engage in the many green initiatives at the hotel. The Sustainability Management Plan is communicated internally through employee training programs, the intranet and environmental awareness leaflets placed on staff notice boards and in administration offices.

Guests are encouraged to adopt Green Globe principles such as saving water and energy and assisting with responsible waste disposal through external communication displayed on digital marketing screens in public common areas, in guest rooms, TV channels, on flyers and social media.

Staff Initiatives

Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Hajar Tower Makkah is committed to the equitable hiring of its staff. This is evident in the number of employees from diverse backgrounds including staff with disabilities and female staff members.

In October 2019, an Employee of the Month Day was held where staff were formally acknowledged as making a significant contribution to the hotel. On this special occasion, the hotel celebrated the individual efforts made by each employee who are well qualified in their respective occupations and wished them continued progress and prosperity.

In the same month, a group of Qaba High School students visited the Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Hajar Tower Makkah as part of a work experience program organised by the hotel in collaboration with the General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage. To increase their awareness of hotel and tourist activities, the students met with staff members and enjoyed completing different tasks within each department.
