Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Muensterland Recertified Green Globe for 2nd Year
July 30, 2012 Arton Kabashi

The Messe and Congress Centrum Halle Muensterland (Convention and Congress Center Muensterland) was one of the first to recognize the popularity of “Green” meetings and events and for two years has been Green Globe Certified.

Independent certification auditor Dr.Peter Zimmer examined the Messe and Congress Halle according to aspects of separation of waste, compensation for CO2 (including business travel), purchase of energy from renewable resources as well as social criteria that are contained within the 337 Green Globe standards and criteria. The Green Globe auditor was particularly pleased with the fact that the Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Muensterland integrated sustainable practices within all areas of the congress center, carried out by General Manager Dr. Ursula Paschke.

The commitment of all employees towards sustainability was also evident. In-house energy efficiency managers conduct training across all staff regarding the reasonable and efficient use of resources.

Since the first certification was awarded the congress centre has continued to improve its sustainability performance. Heating and air conditioning systems have been made more efficient saving 25,000 euro per year and lowering overall CO2 emissions. At the same time the installation of water flow controls on all faucets lowered water consumption from 10 to 1.7 liters per minute.

Other measures that were taken have proven efficient over the years: 50 per cent of Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Muensterland energy needs come from a combined heat and power recovery scheme. Additionally, train tickets are offered in cooperation with the German railway, in order to promote environment friendly travel to events.
