Grenada – Aug. 1, 2014
In its bid to maintain its reputation for excellence, Spice Island Beach Resort (www.SpiceIslandBeachResort.com) continues to place emphasis on its most valuable asset, human resource. The resort’s success comes through the hard work and dedication of its team members who are rewarded in many ways including promotion from within. Today, the resort is happy to announce the promotion of Janelle Hopkin to the position of Deputy General Manager.
After graduating from Westmorland Secondary School in 2001, Janelle began her career in hospitality at Spice Island Beach Resort, where she spent a year training. She then attended Glioin Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Hospitality Management, graduating in 2006 with honors. Her tenure in the United Kingdom and Europe allowed her to acquire extensive experience in food and beverage operations at the Four Seasons and the Royal Garden Hotels, both in London.
Janelle returned home in 2006 to continue her journey, following in her father’s footsteps in the hospitality business. She joined the Spice family and over the years made her contribution as Management Trainee, Assistant Manager Food & Beverage, Assistant Manager Front Office Operations and recently, Director of Rooms division. In her new role, Janelle will take on additional responsibility for the entire resort as she works alongside her sister Nerissa Hopkin, who is also a Deputy General Manager at the resort.
Chairman and Managing Director, Sir Royston Hopkin, expressed his delight in seeing his youngest daughter assume such an important role in the establishment he has nurtured for the past 30 years. “One of my guiding principles has always been to recognize outstanding performance and to give credit where it is due,” he said. “Janelle could not have been elevated to this position if she had not worked for it. She has grown up with the company and I am very pleased with her achievements,” he added.
General Manager, Brian Hardy was high in praise for the support he received from Janelle in the past two years. “Her dedication to the resort’s success is demonstrated by hard work on a daily basis and her continued involvement in all aspects of the hotel,” said Hardy. “The employees cannot ask for a better team player who works side by side with them to achieve results,” he noted.
As she accepted her new role at the resort, Janelle complimented all the members of the Spice family who have embraced her over the years. “I could not be where I am today without the direction and support of the hardworking staff at Spice Island Beach Resort,” she said. “Even with all the experience I gained overseas, they are the ones who held my hands and walked me through the difficult times,” she noted.
Janelle showered praises on General Manager Brian Hardy for his guidance over the years and recognized her mother, Lady Betty Hopkin, as her pillar of strength. She also expressed appreciation for her father, Sir Royston’s continued sound advice as well as her sister, Nerissa, and her brother, Ryan Hopkin, who also joined in congratulating her and wishing her success in her new position.
