For the fifth consecutive year, the InterContinental Carlton Hotel has been awarded Green Globe certification and has received the Gold Member Award for its long-term vision and sustainable performance. Hotel staff and management are highly sensitized to the environmental challenges of living and working in the world famous destination of Cannes, and all have worked hard to achieve Green Globe’s objectives while being committed to the hotel’s sustainability strategies.
Mr François Chopinet, General Manager, InterContinental Carlton Hotel said, “As an historic property (opened in 1913), we are proud to be able to meet today’s sustainability standards. Green Globe certification is in line with our guests’ demands, from individuals to corporate multinationals. This Gold certification encourages us to improve our program even further and gives the team a well-deserved acknowledgment of their efforts throughout the years.”
Green Globe’s Gold Member Award is presented to the elite collection of hotels and resorts that successfully complete certification over 5 consecutive years.
Among InterContinental Carlton Hotel’s many green achievements is its innovative approach to waste management. The hotel has been equipped with a heat dehydration device that transforms leftovers into substrate, thus consistently reducing the volume of waste for disposal. With this technology, food waste is poured into the thermal drier, which, in 10 to 14 hours, dries food scraps and reduces the total waste volume by 80% to 90%. The collected organic waste can the be used as a fertilizer for non-food plants and trees.
InterContinental Carlton Cannes also contributes directly to the protection of biodiversity, with the creation of its 5-Star Shelter for honeybees installed on its palace roof. The beehives complement the hotel’s garden and produce a locally flavoured “Made in Carlton” honey.
For several years, the InterContinental Carlton Cannes has actively engaged in a process of Corporate Social Responsibility. The hotel and its staff support a number of initiatives each year to bring charity to the less fortunate. These charities include Restos du Coeur providing voluntary assistance to the poor, particularly in the food sector through access to free meals; Odyssea contributing to the fight against breast cancer through running and sports events for the whole family; and Nettoyons la nature, removing waste from the environment through volunteer events.
