For years, the Iberotel Miramar Al Aquah Beach Resort, located in the Emirate of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), has demonstrated leadership and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency and sustainable management. This upmarket property impresses with its continuous efforts to raise awareness, and was recently awarded Green Globe re-certification.
“Being an environmentally-friendly hotel is one of our biggest achievements within the hospitality industry,” said Ashraf Helmy, General Manager and Area Business Development Manager at Iberotel Miramar Al Aquah Beach Resort. “We came a long way since our initial certification in 2010, and I am so proud to see our successful journey – taking care of nature and protecting the environment, and doing our part for creating a green future. With my wonderful team here at the hotel, we were able to upgrade our Miramar Environmental Management System, and we will continue improving our initiatives at all levels.”
The Iberotel Miramarar Al Aquah Beach Resort actively supports the community and participates in numerous charitable programs, such as blood donation campaigns, beach cleaning events, cause walks and marathons. Last year saw the launch of a new cleaning campaign in Wadi Wurayah, a government-protected tourism area in the mountains, and home to hundreds of species of animals and plants. The entire hotel staff volunteered and helped collecting garbage and removing graffiti from the rocks.
Every Saturday the ‘Kids Gardening Program’ invites children of the hotel guests to engage in garden activities and learn about the importance of keeping the surroundings clean and green. “Engaging kids in garden activities will make them realize the importance of preserving the environment. It becomes an enjoyable activity for them, and it also prepares them to be conscious of the planet we live on,” added Ashraf Helmy. The resort grows its own organic fruits and vegetables, and their own irrigation system recycles grey water for garden use.
At a regional level, the UAE’s ‘Green Economy Partnership’ program empowered the region’s position as a hub of sustainable business. The adoption of green technologies and best practices in environmental protection across key sectors from energy and transportation to buildings and resource management has proven economic and ecological feasibility in the area.
The audit for Iberotel Miramar Al Aquah Beach Resort was conducted by Farnek Avireal, lead sustainability consultancy and a Preferred Green Globe Partner in the MENA region. For additional information please contact Sandrine Le Biavant, e-mail: Sandrine.LeBiavant@farnek.com.
