Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc Achieves GOLD for Five Years of Good Deeds

The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc is proud to announce that it was recently awarded certification by Green Globe for the fifth year in a row.

The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, one of the jewels of the Oetker Collection, is committed to protecting and preserving the environment. This commitment is reflected in the many initiatives and projects that are developed and introduced at the hotel each year.

Created in 2010, the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) department is headed by Julie Poirot, CSR Regional Manager and her team who work together to integrate sustainable best practices into everyday life at the hotel.

“When customers come to our establishment, the ethic is essential. As a luxury hotel, we must be exemplary at all levels, in the quality of service, our employees working conditions, the protection of our environment and our relationship with our stakeholders. Only when those conditions are pooled together can our clients enjoy a unique experience, beyond their own expectations,” said Julie Poirot.

The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc’s overarching goal is to offer excellent service to guests while respecting biodiversity. This goal secured the property its first certification by Green Globe in 2012.

The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc benefits from extraordinary fauna and flora that forms part of the Natura 2000 Area. The hotel has launched environmental initiatives as part of its duty to protect this valuable natural habitat. One of the major projects implemented by the Green Team is the preservation of turtles in the Mediterranean Sea. In partnership with the town of Antibes and the association For a Blue Planet, the hotel is displaying plush turtle toys for sale in guest rooms. This cuddly toy represents the ‘caretta caretta’ Loggerhead sea turtle, which is a native species of the Mediterranean. The hotel encourages guests to contribute to the protection of Mediterranean wildlife by making a donation that will be given in full to its partners.

An insect hotel has been installed near the Kid’s Club to increase awareness amongst children on biodiversity. After exploring the insect hotel, the children take part in training sessions with naturalists. Through this educational program children are given the opportunity to learn about the way of life of different insects including beetles, ladybirds and butterflies.

This year, the CSR Team of the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc also worked on a car-pooling project for staff members. The aims were to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote personal contact between hotel members, improve traffic flow and facilitate better access to the car park.

The property’s actions are determined not only by environmental aspects but also a strong humanitarian spirit. The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc is a partner of the Jeunes Missionnaires d’Aide Humanitaire (JMAH) in Togo. This association fights against the spread of HIV through sensitization campaigns, screenings as well as medical and psychosocial care for people affected by the disease. In 2014, the Human Resources Director, Mrs. Valérie Monnier, was named “Representative JMAH France” in acknowledgement of her leading role in this association. Thanks to her actions, the Oetker Collection decided to create a project in partnership with Mr. Eli Apodo, Director of the association. Every year since the formation of this partnership, the Oetker Collection has given a donation of 5,000€ to the association. These donations have contributed to the opening of a community pharmacy and the implementation of several awareness campaigns.

Another humanitarian action undertaken by the hotel is its “Giving Bag” which is placed in every guest room. Guests fill bags with any clothing or shoes that they no longer want to take back in their luggage. Every item donated is offered to the local charitable organization, the Croix-Rouge (Red Cross Society in France) that helps people in need. Furthermore, the hotel organizes an annual gala event each year to raise funds for the Croix-Rouge. In 2016, the gala helped raise 51,000 euros.
