On the 4th June, 2012, the Hotel Best Western Premier Kaiserhof received Green Globe certification. This is the first time Green Globe has awarded its certificate to an Austrian hotel, acknowledging the hotel’s efforts in regards to achieving economic, social and ecologic sustainability and socio-cultural responsibility.
The building and other structural aspects of the Hotel Best Western Premier Kaiserhof date back to the turn of the century, which provides many challenges when renovating the hotel according to sustainability building guidelines. Equipping the hotel with allergen-free rooms, taking measures in terms of energy and water savings and using other means to enforce sustainability and ecological awareness has been a major undertaking. The successful certification however has bought about a greater knowledge about sustainability amongst staff members, led to greater savings and combines to meet the expectations of guests. .
The Hotel Best Western Premier Kaiserhof worked within the 337 Green Globe sustainability criteria to reach Green Globe certification. The process was completed in a comparatively short amount of time due to the fact that the hotel had been managed according to ISO-standards ensuring full documentation of operating processes was available. The certification process was accompanied by an independent inspection by Green Globe Accredited Auditor for Austria, Karl Reiner, (ÖAR Regionalberatung) and tourism consultants Michaeler & Partner.
“The certification process was a continuous learning process for us, where we did not only recognize potential for savings in regards to water and electricity, but also where we were able to develop new ideas to offer a holistic sustainable holiday experience to our guests,” said the General Manager of the Hotel Kaiserhof Greiderer.
The Hotel passes on ideas on how to become sustainable via media tours. Information is provided on the hotel’s socio-cultural responsibilities and program of continuous improvement. One of the notable new innovations is the provision of eco-friendly taxi services to all guests.
