Green Globe today announces recertification of the Divi Southwinds Beach Resort, Barbados. The Resort is located on the casual south coast of Barbados on Dover Beach along the St. Lawrence Gap, a lively area known for dining, nightlife and open-air shopping. It is approximately four miles from the capital city of Bridgetown.
Divi Resorts has implemented a variety of sustainability programs and initiatives across all its Caribbean properties, such as increasing recycling, installing low-flow toilets and showerheads and cutting chlorine usage in pools by 50 percent.
Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, said: “This outstanding vacation destination proactively demonstrates responsible tourism, and they look for new ways to help protect natural resources every day. They have just developed new purchasing policies and a new comprehensive Sustainability Management Plan that clearly demonstrates the property’s commitment.”
Divi Southwinds Beach Resort’s green practices furthermore include the use of energy saving light bulbs and environmentally-friendly cleaning products. Its staff encourages guests to reuse towels and sheets to decrease the energy used in machine washing and water waste; and the open-air bar and restaurant only uses reusable plastic cups.
