The resort’s ongoing commitment to best practices is reflected through its sustainable efforts including its comprehensive recycling programs, sustainability training sessions, community outreach activities and monthly beach clean-ups,.
A comprehensive sustainability management plan is in place where monthly training for all managers includes the comparison of metrics with previous results to continuously improve standards. A well structured continuous improvement plan is in place also to meet compliance standards at multiple levels. Sustainability training is introduced during induction then remains ongoing for all employees. In addition, a clear communication strategy is followed where each employee is reminded of sustainability practices through the broadcasting of Green Globe policies on an internal TV channel, visual aids around the property and ‘reminder’ cards that keep staff up to date with green practices.
All buildings are constructed of natural stone available from surrounding areas and only native vegetation is planted at the property to reduce environmental impacts. The resort is very committed to minimizing the runoff from buildings and land channelling water to garden areas where possible.
In October 2019, the CHIC Team was awarded with the Quality Assurance Award by Delta Vacations for outstanding quality for their services and facilities. Eco friendly cleaning products are used at the resort and a detailed recycling program ensures minimal waste goes to landfill. Half used rolls of toilet paper and tissue paper are collected and distributed for use in public restrooms while old linen and soap remnants are redistributed and used for cleaning by the housekeeping and maintenance sections. Many outdated and retired items are also donated to local charities and organisations through CHIC’s social program network.
In 2018 a new internship program, the TUI Academy, was established which aims to help young underprivileged women develop hospitality skills that will enable them to gain employment. The program also supports local residents whilst they undergo training in various hotel departments.
Environmental initiatives are also run at the resort that include beach clean ups and annual Earth Day celebrations. Last year, guests took part in tree planting activities organised by CHIC Punta Cana.
